What do you want to be when you grow up
1. want to be 表示 “想要成为……”，后接职业名称（如 IT engineer, teacher, doctor），是表达职业愿望的固定搭配；
2. when you grow up 是时间状语从句，意为 “当你长大后”，grow up 是基础短语，“长大” 的概念。

主语 + plan to do sth.（主语是人，强调 “人主动计划做某事”）
延伸：
plan on doing：接动名词（doing），需与介词 on 搭配，更侧重计划所依赖的假设或预测。
I plan to go shopping tomorrow.（我计划明天去购物。）
We're planning on having a meeting if everyone is available.（如果大家都有空，我们计划开个会。）
