I. Teaching Objectives
1. Be able to identify word categories, master the method of forming nouns by adding affixes, and accurately use key words to complete sentences and short passages.
2. Be able to extract main information about blue whales from a text and write a short passage from the blue whale's perspective in the first person.
3. Develop Ss' vocabulary usage skills, information extraction skills, and writing skills.
II. Language Knowledge

(2) The usage of adjectives and adverbs in daily life.
(3) Rewrite the paragraph in the first person to understand the important role of blue whales in the ecosystem.
III. Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
Show a short video about different objects with their measurement (height, size, weight) on the screen. After watching, ask Ss some simple questions, like “What can you remember about the measurements in the video ”
Step 2 Presentation
Work on 2a and 2b
1. Ask Ss to observe the vocabulary in 2a, circle the odd ones out, and provide reasons.
2. Explain the rules for forming nouns with the suffixes -ance, -tion, -ness, -ity.
3. Ss complete the exercises in 2b independently, the teacher walks around to provide guidance. Finally, the class checks the answers and the teacher explain the key words.
Step 3 Practice
Work on 2c and 2d
1. Ss complete the exercises in 2c and the fill-in-the-blank exercise for the short passage in 2d independently.
2. Pairs correct each other's work within their groups, and the teacher provides explanations.
Step 4 Pre-reading
Play a short video about blue whales.

Ss read the text quickly and answer: What's the text mainly about

Step 6 Post-reading
T: Work in groups to say something about how to protect blue whales by answering the following questions:

(1) Because the temperature in the ocean is becoming higher and higher.
(2) Because there is more pollution in the ocean.
(3) Because humans kill blue whales to get the fat under their skin.

(1) Ask the government to make laws to stop killing.

Step 7 Writing
Work on 3b
