Think and share
It doesn’t lie only in Beijing—Beijing has parts of the Great Wall. The Great Wall mainly runs through northern China. It starts from Shanhaiguan (a city in Hebei Province, near the sea) in the east and ends at Jiayuguan (a city in Gansu Province, in the west).
People started building parts of the Great Wall over 2,000 years ago, during the Qin Dynasty. But most of the Great Wall we see today was built in the Ming Dynasty (about 600 years ago).
It’s a common myth that the Great Wall of China is the only human-made structure visible to the naked eye from space, but that’s not actually true.
Today, the Great Wall is a symbol of China’s history, and it’s one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world. People come from all over to walk on the wall, learn about its history, and enjoy the beautiful views.
While 6,700 km is the length of the best-preserved parts, the full Great Wall stretches much further, totaling over 21,000 km.
