They lived on an island in the Indian Ocean. There was plenty of food to eat. All the other animals were friendly.So their life is happy, peaceful and safe.

Why did dodos die out
Human Activities
In 1598,humans arrived. They cut down the trees and the lovely forest was gone. They hunted dodos. Their animals ate dodos’ eggs. As a result, dodos soon died out.

1. What do “as happy as a clam” and “as dead as a dodo” mean
People can easily catch clams during low tide(退潮) in the morning, but during high tide(涨潮) in the evening, clams are not easily caught as the sea water recedes, so clams are very happy during low tide.

“As happy as a clam” means very happy.
“As dead as a dodo” means completely dead.
