时间状语从句：用从句来表达一件事情或一个行为发生的时间。
由after, as soon as, before, since, until, when, while引导时间状语从句。

before/after
1.Before we begin dinner, my father gives thanks for the food.
2.Mother sometimes prepares dinner after I come back from school.
before: 在……之前
after：在……之后
5. 由as soon as连接的时间状语从句
as soon as表示“立即”，“一…… 就……”
例如:They quarreled as soon as the wedding ceremony
ended．
婚礼一完他们就吵了起来。
6. 由while连接的时间状语从句
例如：While he was waiting for a bus, he was reading a newspaper. 他一边等车一边看报。
[注] when, as, while都有“当……时”的意思,它们除“在从句动作发生的同时,发生了主句的动作”这一相同的含义外,在用法上还有一定的差别。
before表示主句的动作发生在从句之前。
如:
I won’t tell you the truth before he comes back.
他回来之前我是不会告诉你事实的。
after表示主句的动作发生在从句的动作之后。
如:
After she finished the work, she went to have supper.
她完成工作后去吃晚饭了。
as soon as表示主句的动作紧随从句动作之后发生的。
如:
After she finished the work, she went to have supper.
她完成工作后去吃晚饭了。
表示“一……就”
I will call you as soon as I arrive home.
我一到家就给你打电话。
I hope to find him as soon as possible.
我希望尽可能快地找到他。
Mother became unhappy as soon as I mentioned his name.
我一提到他的名字，母亲就变得很不开心。

4.由until 或till 引导的时间状语从句
until/till 的用法 主句为 肯定式
主句为 否定式
主句谓语动词必须为延续性动词。
主句谓语动词是非延续性动词。
该动词所表示的动作或状态一直延续到until/till 从句所表示的时间为止。
该动词所表示的动作在until/till 从句表示的时间开始发生。
先译从句，后译主句，译为“直到……才……”
Let’s wait until the rain stops.
咱们等雨停了吧。
I won’t go until I’m good and ready.
我要完全准备就绪后才走。
目的状语从句
1.在复合句中作目的状语的从句称为目的状语从句。目的状语从句可置于句首成句尾。常用引导词有so that，in order that，for fear that，in case （that），for the purpose that等。
so that意为“以便，为了”，表示目的。so that 常位于句中连接两个分句，从句中多用can，could，may等情态动词。如：

Many years ago, I lived in Greece, on a very beautiful island. On 1st May, Greek people celebrate Labour Day, and it is also a festival to celebrate the beginning of summer. Public holidays in the US
Apart from Independence Day, Labour Day and Thanksgiving, the US has several other important holidays during the year. Martin Luther King Day in January celebrates the birthday of the great civil rights leader. Columbus Day in October remembers Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas in 1492.

马丁·路德·金纪念日（Martin Luther King, Jr. Day）是美国联邦法定假日，纪念民权运动领袖马丁·路德·金牧师的生日。日期定为一月的第三个礼拜一，是在他生日1月15日左右。
金是美国民权运动中主张非暴力抗议族歧视的主要领袖，1968年遇刺身亡。虽然他遇刺之后不久就有人建议建立纪念日，之后罗纳德·里根总统于1983年签订法律，1986年第一次庆祝。
哥伦布日（Columbus Day）为10月12日或10月的第二个星期一，以纪念哥伦布于1492年首次登上美洲大陆。哥伦布日是美国于1792年首先发起纪念的。当时正是哥伦布到达美洲300周年纪念日，纽约市坦慕尼协会发起举办了纪念活动。1893年，芝加哥举办哥伦布展览会，再次举办了盛大的纪念活动。从此，每年的这一天，美国大多数州都要举行庆祝，教堂礼拜和学校活动以纪念这个具有历史意义的日子。
