Festivals in autumn
Unit 2
Festivals and holidays
What are the festivals in autumn
What will you do at the Mid-Autumn Festival
Mid-Autumn Festival is a very interesting holiday, and Li Ming likes it very much. He specifically wrote an email to introduce the Mid-Autumn Festival to his foreign friends.
I love autumn! The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is coming. It is on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar.
We also call it the Moon Festival. We believe that the moon is at its roundest and brightest at this time of the year.
The Mid-Autumn Festival dates back more than two thousand years. It was to celebrate the harvest of the year. Later, the festival gained more cultural meanings. It is now a symbol of family reunion and gratitude. On this day, my whole family always gets together, has a wonderful dinner, and watches the full moon.
When I was a little boy, my grandma told me the story of Chang’e. I would look up and try to find her on the moon while enjoying delicious mooncakes.
Many great poets in China wrote about the festival. I like this poem best:
The sea mirrors the rising moon bright tonight;
Far apart from each other, our hearts share the moment.
I think there are many festivals celebrating the harvest all over the world. Do you know of any, Jenny
Divided into two parts
A Why was the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrated two thousand years ago
