在英语中，主语和谓语必须在人称和数上保持一致。
1. 由and或both...and...连接的两个或多个单词、短语作主语时，后面用谓语的复数形式。
Li Wei and Jack are going to study at the same school.
李伟和杰克要在同一所学校上学。
Both Tim and Jack like reading.
提姆和杰克都喜欢阅读。

用法：
2. “The+形容词”做主语，表示一类人，谓语用复数。
The sick here are very well cared for.
这儿的病人都被照顾的很好。

3.“the+姓氏+S“ 做主语表示一家人，谓语动词用复数。
The Smiths are coming to dinner.
斯密斯一家人要来吃晚饭。

用法：
4. 当主语中有with,together with，as well as, rather than, like, except, but, including等组成的短语时，谓语动词的单复数与前面的主语保持一致。
The students,together with their teacher, are going to have a picnic this weekend.
这些学生连同他们的老师这周末要去野餐。
The factory, including its machines, was burnt last night.
这家工厂连同它们的机器昨晚都被烧着了。

用法：
5. 由or, either ...or..., neither... nor...,not only...but also... 连接的两个单词、短语作主语，谓语的单复数形式通常与最近的一个单词或短语保持一致。
Not only we but also the little girl is fond of the game.
不仅仅是我们，就连这个小姑娘也喜欢这个游戏。
Either I or they are responsible for the result of the matter.
不是我就是他们要对那件事的结局负责。

用法：
6. 集体名词family, class,audience,committee 等做主语时，强调整体用单数，强调成员用复数。
My family is full of love and warmth.
我的家充满了爱与温暖。
My family all like watching TV.
我们全家人都喜欢看电视。

用法：
7. “The number of+可数名词复数”做主语时，谓语动词用单数形式；
“A number of+可数名词复数”做主语时，谓语动词用复数形式。
The number of students in our school was over 1000 last year.
去年我们学校学生的数量超过了1000人。
A number of books were presented to the library yesterday.
昨天许多图书被赠送给了图书馆。

用法：
8. 如果名词词组中心词是“分数或百分数 + of + 名词”，谓语动词的单、复数形式取决于of后的名词或代词的单复数形式。
Over three-quarters of the land has been reclaimed.
超过四分之三的土地已经被开垦。
Two-thirds of the people present are against the plan.
在场的人有三分之二反对这个计划。

用法：
9. a/an+单数名词+or two”作主语时，谓语动词用单数；而
“one or two+复数名词”作主语时，谓语动词用复数。
A student or two has failed the exam.
几个学生考试失败了。
One or two students were planting trees yesterday afternoon.
昨天下午一两个学生正在种树。

用法：
10. 在“It+be+被强调部分+that/who.….”结构中，be用单数形式is或was，如被强调部分是主语，that/who后句子的谓语与被强调部分的人称、数保持一致。
IIt was in China that we had a good time.
正是在中国我们过得很愉快。
It is I who am to blame for the fault.
正是我应该因这个过失受责备。
