Jenny, Danny, and Brian are on a beach vacation with their families. They’re excited to go for a swim in the ocean.
Jenny: Ouch! I stepped on something and it hurts!
Danny: Is it a shark
Jenny: You’re kidding me. It’s just some plastic. Look, it’s a plastic bottle.
Danny: Plastic It should be in the bin, not in the sea.
Brian: I’ll go throw this bottle in the recycling bin.
Danny: Look! That man over there is leaving his garbage on the beach. Such behaviour is harmful to the ocean and its creatures.
Jenny: Exactly! Last week, I read that a whale died with more than 20 plastic bags, a toy gun, and other rubbish, 10 kilos in all, in its stomach.
Danny: That’s such a terrible story. If we do nothing, the situation will
get worse.
2 Listen to the conversation and answer the questions.
Brian: How about cleaning up the beach
Danny: Sounds good. But it would take too long. There are only three of us!
Jenny: We can ask our family members to help.
Brian: Good idea!

Point
用法:
常作表语或状语。
例句:

2. I stepped on something and it hurts!
step on“踩;踏”,是动词短语,后接名词或代词作宾语。
Point
例句:
Don't step on the grass.(不要踩草坪。)
He accidentally stepped on my foot.
(他不小心踩到了我的脚。)
Be careful not to step on it.(小心别踩到它。)
3. That man over there is leaving his garbage on the beach.
leave sth. on...意思是 “把某物留在…… 上” ,表示将物品放置在某个表面上。
Point
用法:
leave 后接宾语,on 后接地点名词。
例句:
He left his keys on the table.(他把钥匙留在了桌子上。)
The boy left his toys on the floor.(那个男孩把他的玩具留在了地板上。)

take action to意为 “采取行动”,是一个常用短语,强调付诸行动去做某事。
Point
用法:
常单独使用或后接动词不定式(take action to do sth.),表示采取行动做某事。
例句:

They took action to solve the problem.
他们采取了行动解决这个问题。(后接动词不定式)
clean up表示 “打扫干净;清理” ,是动词短语。

讲解:
后接宾语时,若宾语是代词,需放在 clean 与 up 之间;后面也可不接宾语。
例句:
Let's clean up the classroom.(我们打扫一下教室吧。)
Clean it up before you leave.(离开前把它清理干净。)
