(2025年新课标全国卷2)第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
[1]“What is your name ” is a question most frequently asked when people meet for the first time. But for me, it was the first challenge I encountered as an international student in Ireland.
[2]The pronunciation system of the Chinese language is quite different from that of English. For native speakers of English, some Chinese words are rather difficult to pronounce. My given name Qiuyu(秋雨), for instance, happened to be a great challenge for many of them. Every time I gave a self-introduction, I had to explain how to pronounce my name at least five times, yet they still could not say it the way I did.
[3]Once in a lecture, the professor tried repeating my name after me over and over in front of thirty classmates. I really did not know whether I should continue correcting him or simply drop the matter. I feared that my classmates might grow tired of my efforts or even lose patience with me. After all, I did care about how others would think of me. I realized that if I didn't stop, the entire lecture would be ruined. “It's okay, professor,” I shrugged (耸肩). The awkward moment ended with the class erupting into laughter. I forced a smile, unsure how to respond further.
[4]After that incident, I stopped acting as a “Chinese teacher. ” Instead of correcting others when they were struggling to pronounce my name, I just smiled and nodded approvingly. This approach spared me the discomfort of having to over-explain. However, I soon found that by doing so, I might be losing something more important: the opportunity to share a small part of my cultural identity.

Activity Five:Finish your draft
With butterflies in my stomach, I hesitated before rising to my feet, stepped onto the stage and took a deep breath. “My name is Qiu Yu,” I emphasized the pronunciation, “Qiu is autumn and Yu means rain.” Surprised by the keen and curious eyes, I continued. “A Chinese name is not just an identity, but carries the best wishes from the last generation to the new born. As an old Chinese saying goes, each autumn rain brings coolness to the scorching summer. I suppose my parents want me to keep calm however serious the situation is.” To my relief, applause instead of laughter echoed in the classroom, and I walked back to my seat.
They apologized for their mispronunciation first and asked me to give each of them a Chinese name. It took me several minutes to search for the suitable characters in my mind before I took out a piece of paper, wrote down both Chinese and English versions and explained them to each of my classmates. Satisfied and grateful, they practiced the pronunciation repeatedly and reintroduced themselves to each other proudly. Seeing the amazement and excitement on their faces, never had I imagined the little name can bridge the huge gap between different cultures.
