The 2024 Paris Olympic Games concluded on Aug. 11, showcasing the impressive talents of China's Generation Z athletes across various sports. While they embodied the Olympic motto of “Faster, Higher, Stronger—Together”, there has been a shift in perspectives on winning as a recognition of the true essence of the Olympic spirit.
Since the beginning of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, many exciting and unforgettable moments have been shared by athletes and audiences worldwide. We have cheered for victories and comforted those who fell short. But beyond the triumphs and defeats, there is something more to admire.
On Aug. 4, 21 year old Zheng Qinwen made history for Chinese tennis by winning the first gold medal in women's singles for both China and Asia. Just the following day, the young Chinese swimming team ended the US's decades long unbeaten period in the men's 4×100 m relay, finishing in 3 minutes and 27.46 seconds. By winning gold medals in events once dominated by Western athletes, these young competitors have demonstrated a remarkable improvement in China's competitive sports landscape.
Equally inspiring is the positive mindset exhibited by these young athletes. They are confident and inclusive, striving for excellence and breakthrough performances. Moreover, they have moved away from the “gold medal only” mentality, embracing a more composed and rational (理性的) approach to sports. From 18 year old BMX freestyle cyclist Deng Yawen to 26 year old swimmer Zhang Yufei, many young athletes have attracted global audiences with their self assured approach to competition. They genuinely enjoy competing. When Zhang, China's “butterfly queen”, missed out on a gold medal, she said, “I hope this time I can have a relaxed attitude and really enjoy the Olympics.”
This shift in mindset and demeanor has moved the public focus away from just winning gold medals to appreciating the respect and glory that athletes and the Olympics truly deserve. Success is the goal, but they remain equally graceful in the face of failure, embodying the deep integration of Chinese values with the Olympic spirit. It's not just about being faster, higher, stronger, but also about embracing sports with a positive attitude.

A. To emphasize the importance of the Paris Olympic Games.
B. To praise athletes' relaxed mindset in Paris Olympic Games.

4. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Chinese athletes achieved great success in Paris Olympic Games.
B. Chinese athletes embraced Olympic Games with a positive attitude.
C. Chinese athletes displayed impressive talents in Paris Olympic Games.
D. Chinese athletes embodied the Olympic motto in Paris Olympic Games.
根据第二段“Since the beginning of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games…there is something more to admire.(自2024年巴黎奥运会开幕以来,世界各地的运动员和观众分享了许多令人兴奋和难忘的时刻。我们为胜利欢呼,安慰fell short的人。但在胜利和失败之外,还有更多值得钦佩的东西。)”可知,画线词与前文的comforted构成短语“安慰未能达到预期的人”与前文提到的cheered for victories“为胜利欢呼”相反。故选D。
2. A 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Equally inspiring is the positive mindset…a more composed and rational (理性的) approach to sports.(同样鼓舞人心的是这些年轻运动员所表现出的积极心态。他们自信而包容、追求卓越和突破性的表现。此外,他们已经摆脱了‘只为金牌’的心态,采取了一种更冷静、更理性的体育态度。)”可知,文章提到他们已经摆脱了“只为金牌”的心态,所以A选项“年轻运动员决心只赢得金牌”是不正确的。故选A。
根据第四段中的“From 18 year old BMX freestyle cyclist Deng Yawen to 26 year old swimmer Zhang Yufei…she said, ‘I hope this time I can have a relaxed attitude and really enjoy the Olympics.’(从18岁的自由式小轮车自行车选手邓雅文到26岁的游泳运动员张雨霏,许多年轻运动员以自信的比赛态度吸引了全球观众。他们真的很享受竞争。当中国的‘蝴蝶女王’张雨霏与金牌失之交臂时,她说:‘我希望这次我能有一种放松的态度,真正享受奥运会。’)”可知,提到张雨霏是为了表扬运动员在巴黎奥运会上的轻松心态。故选B。
4. B 文章大意题。根据全文内容,特别是最后一段中的“Success is the goal, but they remain equally graceful in the face of failure, embodying the deep integration of Chinese values with the Olympic spirit. It's not just about being faster, higher, stronger, but also about embracing sports with a positive attitude.(成功是目标,但面对失败,他们同样保持优雅,体现了中国价值观与奥林匹克精神的深刻融合。这不仅仅是要更快、更高、更强,还要以积极的态度拥抱运动。)”可知,文章主要讲述了中国运动员以积极的态度迎接奥运会。故选B。
Ⅱ.七选五
(2024·湖北荆州)
Culture is a popular word in sport. Coaches often relate the cause of their success or failure to this word. __1__
The short answer is, while the cultures of some sports teams can create long term success, others will only deliver success in the short term, if at all. Culture is a key factor in the success of any organized group. So what is a sports team's culture Every team has a culture. __2__
Culture is a measure of the observable behaviors your team promotes and accepts. Basically, culture is best defined simply as “the way we do things around here” or “the way we behave around here”. __3__ Some teams support a certain culture but actually behave in a very different way. Your team's culture leads to either effective and productive results or ineffective and unproductive results.
Now that we have begun to illustrate the importance of culture, what are the benefits of having a culture that is consistent throughout your organization or at your team level
__4__ Research has shown that when employees and senior leaders have the same view of the culture, the level of employee engagement (including satisfaction, commitment and likelihood of recommending their organization as a great place to work) is much higher than in less consistent cultures. To put it frankly, when culture is consistent, everyone wins.
Unfortunately, there's not as much research about team culture in a sporting context. __5__ There are many elements of organizational culture that are directly applicable in a sporting context.
A. Even if you do not know what yours is, one exists.
B. Consistent cultures tend to have more engaged people.
C. But why should you care about your sports team's culture
D. A different and unique culture can be one of your team's disadvantages.
E. Culture is neither what you think nor want to do, but rather what you do.
F. The real question here is: What are the reasons for the success of a sports team
G. However, we can draw much from business focused research, as in the end “people are people”.
1. C 根据下文“The short answer is, while the cultures of some sports teams can create long term success, others will only deliver success in the short term, if at all. (简单的回答是,虽然一些运动队的文化可以创造长期的成功,但其他运动队的文化只能带来短期的成功,如果有的话。)”可知,下文是一个问题的答案,C项意为“但是你为什么要关心你的运动队的文化呢 ”选项能够引起下文,选项中的“why”和下文的“answer”相呼应。故选C。
2. A 根据上文“Every team has a culture. (每个团队都有自己的文化。)”可知,上文告诉我们每个团队都有自己的文化,A项意为“即使你不知道你的团队的文化是什么,也有一个存在。”选项能够承接上文。故选A。
3. E 根据上文“Basically, culture is best defined simply as ‘the way we do things around here’ or ‘the way we behave around here’. (基本上,文化最好简单地定义为‘我们在这里做事的方式’或‘我们在这里的行为方式’。)”可知,上文在介绍什么是运动队的文化,E项意为“文化不是你想什么也不是你想做什么,而是你做什么。”选项能够承接上文,是对上文内容的进一步解释。故选E。
4. B 根据下文“Research has shown that when employees and senior leaders…is much higher than in less consistent cultures. [研究表明,当员工和高级领导对文化有着相同的看法时,员工的参与度(包括满意度、忠诚度和推荐其组织为理想工作场所的可能性)远高于拥有不太一致的文化的公司的员工的参与度。]”可知,下文介绍的是当员工和高级领导对文化有着相同的看法时,会带来什么好处,B项意为“一致的文化有助于拥有参与度更高的员工。”选项能够引起下文。故选B。
5. G 根据上文“Unfortunately, there's not as much research about team culture in a sporting context. (不幸的是,没有太多关于体育背景下团队文化的研究。)”可知,大多数团队文化的研究都是以公司为背景,没有太多关于体育背景下团队文化的研究,G项意为“然而,我们可以从以商业为中心的研究中汲取很多,因为最终‘人终究是人’。”选项与上文构成转折关系。故选G。

(2024·江苏南京)
Bob and I hung out the whole summer, running in the field, swimming in the lake and exploring everywhere joyfully.
It was a typical summer afternoon. Bob suggested we skip a language lesson to play basketball. Aha! I would show my defense, lay ups and three point shooting. I loved to explore, I loved sports, and I loved basketball most. I believed I would be the next LeBron James.
But my passion for sports came to a sudden stop when I began experiencing extreme back pain later that day. After several visits to doctors, finally I was told that a spine(脊柱) surgery was necessary. Unfortunately, the surgery accidentally damaged my spinal cord(脊髓). I was in the ward hanging face down to relieve the pressure on my spine.
After four month rehabilitation training(康复训练) in hospital, reality slowly set in—I was unable to walk again. I couldn't believe this should have happened to me, that it wasn't possible to recover, that I wouldn't become a famous basketball player, that my life as I had known it, was over. My future would be chained to a wheelchair. I was just 16 years old!
Back home, I learned how hard it was going to be to get around in a wheelchair. I withdrew from my friends and my basketball. At Bob's repeated invitation, I agreed to go to our regular swimming hole. Unable to make it down the riverbank alone, I was too proud to ask for help. When I finally realized my pride would keep me away from people and sports I loved, I let Bob carry me on his back to the river's edge.
Allowing others to help was a turning point. I realized my attitude was the biggest barrier I had to face. How could I expect others to see my potential if I didn't see it myself How could I realize my basketball dream if I withdrew into myself

With Bob's encouragement, I decided to have a try at my dream. _________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
One day, Bob took me to a wheelchair basketball game. This became a decisive turning point in my life. I watched the same basketball court and the same excited audience. The only difference was that the players were moving around in their wheelchairs just like I did. They turned around, charging forward and showing their lay ups nimbly. Amazed at their skills, I kept applauding until the game concluded. Then, Bob said something that was going to change my life forever, “Jack, if they can do it, so can you! Why not reignite your basketball dream ”
With Bob's encouragement, I decided to have a try at my dream. I signed up for a basketball course for the disabled. Every weekend, my teammates and I would practice moving, turning around, passing the ball and shooting in a wheelchair. When Bob watched my game three months later, it was he who kept applauding for my regained basketball skill. Thanks to Bob's encouragement and my changing attitude, I am now on my way to becoming LeBron James. The only difference is that my version of James is playing in the wheelchair, but by no means confined to it.
