“I’ve read thousands of books,” Xu said. “Books have truly changed my life.”
The idea of starting a library took shape in 2000, when Xu recommended (推荐) online a list of his favorite books to university students, but many of them said they couldn’t find those books in their school libraries or local bookstores. So he began sending his books to readers for free. “They all wrote me letters expressing their thanks. It inspired me to take it farther, turning my book-gifting into a physical space,” Xu said.

Qi, who worked as a truck driver in Zibo, Shandong, also served as a deputy (副职) leader of a rescue team in Zibo. Throughout his life, he had been doing things f or the public.
In the eyes of his wife Chang Li, Qi always eagerly volunteered whenever there was a call for help. He spent almost all of his free time on voluntary service.
In August 2021, when a sudden flood hit Henan Province, Qi, together with his team members, rushed to Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province, to help with rescuing people.
Then again in December 2023 when a powerful earthquake hit Jishishan County in Gansu Province, he and his team took action to deal with the disaster at once.
According to Liu Dong, the leader of the rescue team, Qi kept his mobile phone on for 24 hours so that he could respond quickly whenever needed.
However, no one thought that Qi would lose his life in the volunteer service he loved.
On the afternoon of May 24, Qi fainted (昏厥) while volunteering in Zibo. When he fell, he hit his head on a stone bench, leading to his death.

Our country now has over 230 million registered volunteers. They provided more than 4.5 billion hours of volunteer work.
Someone says that for students, this kind of work isn’t meaningful and wastes time. But I think that we can get much from it.
First of all, volunteering is a good way to open our eyes. We may do something we have never done and meet different kinds of people. We can talk with them and get their good ideas.
Secondly, volunteers, especially (尤其) students can learn much from practice. As students, we are interested in books and learn some knowledge from them. After we become volunteers, we will have the chance to put our knowledge into practice.

Every search you make, service you use, message you send and product you buy is part of your “digital footprint”: Companies and online platforms use this “footprint” to track exactly what you are doing, from what links you click on to how much time you spend on a website. From your online behavior, they can guess what you are interested in and what things you might want to buy. By selling your data or providing products aimed at your interests, companies can make big money.

China has passed a law to protect the Yangtze River, which has been described as the “mother river” of the Chinese nation. Yangtze River Protection Law took effect on March 1, 2021. It is the first law to protect the waterway in China.
The 6,397-km-long Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia and provides an important lifeline for hundreds of millions of people. It covers an area of about 1.8 million km2, about a fifth of the national total. The Yangtze River provides a third of the country’s freshwater resources, but it has suffered a series of environmental problems in recent years, such as heavy pollution and decrease in fish populations.
To solve these problems, China put a 10-year fishing ban to protect fish resources.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, around 231,000 fishermen said they would give up fishing along the Yangtze River to protect the “mother river”. More support should be given to those fishermen to help them find new jobs and places to live and stronger efforts should be made to prevent illegal fishing.
The law includes not only resource protection and anti-pollution measures, but also design and management, green development and other fields. The government says the purpose of the law is to strengthen environmental protection, to use resources efficiently and to ensure sustainable development.
