五、[江苏连云港中考改编] 阅读理解
Saturn (土星) is famous for the beautiful rings around it. Now, it’s getting attention for being even more amazing. Scientists have discovered 128 new moons around Saturn, bringing the planet’s total to 274. A moon is any naturally formed object that moves around a planet. Moons come in different shapes and sizes.
Most of Saturn’s new moons are small objects, just one or two miles wide— quite different to Earth’s Moon, which is a 2,159-mile-wide ball. These space rocks are in unusual orbits (轨道) too. They go around Saturn in the opposite direction to its own movement. At between 6.5 million and 18 million miles away from the ringed planet, the newly discovered moons are also further away than Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan.
Why does Saturn have so many moons while Earth only has one According to scientists, several billion years ago, the giant planet’s gravity attracted some rocks and ice. Over time, some of them crashed against each other, breaking into smaller pieces or coming together to create many small moons.
The new moons were first discovered in 2023 by a team of scientists led by Edward Ashton, and were recently confirmed by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Saturn now is the planet with the most moons—Jupiter is not far behind with 95. However, Dr Ashton believes this might be the limit for moon discovery. “I don’t think Jupiter will ever catch up,” he said. “With present technology, I don’t think we can do better than what has already been done,” he added.
( )26. What does “the ringed planet” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. Earth. B. Saturn. C. Moon. D. Titan.
词义猜测题。根据“At between 6.5 million and 18 million miles away from the ringed planet, the newly discovered moons are also further away than Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan.”可知这些新发现的卫星距离土星650 万至1800 万英里, 也比土星最大的卫星泰坦更远, 故此处“the ringed planet”指的是土星。故选B。
B
返回
( )27. What led to the large number of Saturn’s moons
A. The size of the planet.
B. The weights of the moons.
C. The orbit of the planet.
D. The crashes of the rocks and ice.
细节理解题。根据“... the giant planet’s gravity attracted some rocks and ice. Over time, some of them crashed against each other, breaking into smaller pieces or coming together to create many small moons.”可知土星的引力吸引了许多岩石和冰块, 随着时间的推移, 这些物体相互碰撞, 破碎成更小的碎片, 或者聚集在一起形成了许多小卫星。故选D。
D
返回
( )28. What can we learn from Dr Ashton’s words in the last paragraph
A. Jupiter will soon catch up with Saturn.
B. Saturn’s new moons might support life.
C. The IAU presented a medal to his team.
D. He is satisfied with their moon discovery.
推理判断题。根据“With present technology, I don’t think we can do better than what has already been done”可知Dr Ashton 认为, 以目前的技术水平, 他们已经做到了极致, 不太可能再有新的发现, 这表明他对卫星的发现感到满意。故选D。

摆脱手机依赖——回归真实生活
What object has the magic ability to provide you with a whole new world, where you can read books, send messages or chat online The answer is your handphone.
Clearly, the handphone satisfies all our wants and needs, leaving us desiring more.
According to a survey report by Connected Life, Singaporean youths spend an average of 3.4 hours a day on their phones. This may not seem like a big number to you, but think: what could you do in three hours Cycling at the park with your family; reviewing your work. Phone addiction must come to a full stop today. How
One way to stop addiction is to download some apps to track the time you spend on your phone daily.
You will find many mobile apps that help track the exact length of time you spend on your phone, telling you if you run over time. Each day you can start afresh with a new goal, with a new sense of what you need to do and what you do not.
Another method is to keep your phone off and to place it out of sight. When your phone is off, you will be unable to check it so often.
Although there may be a strong desire for your phone, keep in mind the many different tasks you need to do instead and work on them. When you feel like turning it on, smack your hand and tell yourself firmly, “Later!”
In short, the most effective way is to busy yourself with other activities and push the thought about wasting valuable time on your handphone out of your mind.
After all, these joys are only short-term, and will be your regret in the long run. Now is the time to lock your handphone and unlock your life. Live in this world, full of hopes and dreams, beauty and wonders. Cherish your youth while you can. You do not want to live with regret.

时文阅读—讲好中国故事
世界上“最害羞的”花
Chinese scientists have discovered four kinds of Gentiana (龙胆属) on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau (青藏高原), whose flowers can close within seconds after being touched, m aking them the most sensitive flowers in the world, according to a recently published study.
“The flowers disappeared quickly in front of you,” said Dai Can, one of the scientists who led the study. Some people on Chinese social media said the flowers are the “shyest” in the world. The rapid movement of petals has always been interesting to scientists and nature lovers, as unlike animals, plants are usually static.
Leaves of carnivorous plants can react to touch. Before the Gentiana discoveries, the only known plant to display such behavior was the sundew (茅膏菜) plant. Its green leaves can curl up within 2 to 10 minutes after being touched by a fly. It takes between 4 and 6 days for the leaf to digest the fly it catches.
However, the four kinds of Gentiana take 7 to 210 seconds to close their petals, making them the most sensitive and fast-reacting flowers in the world, the study said.
The flowers were discovered in 2020 near a lake in Nagchu, Xizang Autonomous Region.
The Gentiana’s flower could protect itself from repeated visits by bumblebees that have a large body, the study said.
Another explanation could be that the plant encourages bumblebees to transfer pollen among more flowers, because a closed flower would show them that it has already been visited and the bees should look for another flower. Wang Qingfeng, a researcher at Wuhan Botanical Garden, said both should be examined further in future studies.

情境3 Leo 到了营地后, 上了第一堂自然课—深海探索, 他对海洋有了更深的了解。
任务三: 阅读理解(10 分)
Though oceans cover about 71 percent of the earth’s surface, there’s still a lot we don’t know about them. Only about 20 percent of the seafloor has been mapped, and the remaining 80 percent is still a secret to us.
Some scientists even think that 91 percent of sea animals have yet to be discovered.
So why do we know so little about the deep sea Well, getting to those depths is very difficult and requires high technology that simply didn’t come into being for most of human history. The first navigable submarine (可驾驶的潜水艇), for example, was built in 1620, and it couldn’t go more than five meters below the surface.
In fact, for a long time many scientists didn’t even think that there could be any life at depths greater than 550 meters and didn’t see much need to explore (探索) the deep sea. However, this changed in 1862 when life was discovered as far down as 945 meters below sea level with the help of a digging machine. Ten years later, around 4, 700 species (物种) unknown before from the ocean floor were discovered.
Since then, high technology has been developed to help explore the deep sea, including satellites. But why is deep-sea exploration still so difficult Well, at greater depths it is freezing (极冷的), everything is completely dark, and the pressure can be over 1, 000 times greater than that on the surface.
Though we have the difficulties, it’s important that we understand the seas. They help control the earth’s temperature and produce half of the oxygen (O2) in the air. They can also provide us with information about climate change. Our future depends on learning more about our oceans, and it is possible for us to really understand what is ongoing below the surface.
( )16. Why are some numbers listed in Paragraph 1
A. To introduce how important oceans are.
B. To discuss why sea animals have yet to be found out.
C. To explain that oceans cover a large area of the earth.
D. To show that we have only a little under standing of oceans.
推理判断题。根据“Though oceans cover about 71 percent of the earth’s surface, there’s still a lot we don’t know about them...”可知列举的数字表明, 尽管海洋覆盖地球的71%, 但是我们对海洋仍然知之甚少。故选D。

六、[河北石家庄月考] 阅读表达
It was sunny on Oct. 30th last year. Zhang Siwen, 13, found some special fruit at school. She picked one, but not for fun. She wanted to take notes about the fruit. She carefully drew different parts of the fruit and wrote down some information. A few months later, her nature-related (与自然相关的) notes won a prize in a science competition.
Many students in Shanghai collect fruits, flowers and other plants and write down notes with pictures and information. They learn more about nature through writing these notes. They also add some other information in their notes, such as when and where they got the plants, what the weather was like and how they felt at that time.
For many students, taking these nature notes is a way to find out something new. Zhang is one of them. When she wrote new fruit notes, she first drew a picture of the fruit. Then she learned about its length (长度) with a ruler. Next, she broke the fruit open. She touched, got the juice and smelt it to learn more. “If you open and press some fruits, you’ll find they are juicy,” she said.

When characters fall through the sky in cartoons, they often lie on clouds. What is a cloud And what would it feel like to touch a cloud in real life
Believe it or not, many of us have already touched a cloud though we probably didn’t realize it at the time. “Clouds are really little drops of water in the air,” says Kristina Pistone. Sound familiar
The same definition applies to fog. “If you have ever walked outside on a really foggy day where you can’t see very ① ____, you’re walking through a cloud,” Kristina said. That’s because fog is just a kind of ② ____ that forms on the ground.
According to the World Meteorological Organization, there are more than 100 kinds of clouds. But Kristina said that with a bit of practice, anyone can learn to recognize some of the common cloud.
Cloud colour is also interesting. Black or dark clouds usually mean a storm is coming because they’re so full of water that light can’t pass through them.
All of this is important for scientists to study because a lot of big white clouds help reflect (反射) heat back into space. 云能对气候变化起作用。
So the next time you see a sky full of white clouds, think about all the ways those little water drops might be affecting the world around us— not only by raining or snowing, but by changing the planet’s temperature!
