The Iceberg theory
Why is the title the Old Man and the Sea, NOT the Old Man and the Fish
Elaboration
1.The sea symbolizes the vast, unpredictable(无法预测的) world. It contains all challenges, not just the fish. So the title shows a broader struggle.
2.The fish is temporary(暂时的), but the fight with the sea endures(持续). The title focuses on this long - lasting battle.
3.The sea is central to the old man's life. It's a character with a more complex relationship, more significant than the fish.
Describe your moment of perseverance(坚持),including:
1.the difficulties you encountered;
2.the action you took;
3.the insights(感悟) you gained.
Elaboration
Mini-writing(within 50 words)
Elaboration
Several weeks ago, I struggled with a challenging English speech contest piece—its complex sentences tripped me up, and I kept forgetting key lines during practice.
Initially, I felt frustrated but I broke the speech into segments, recited each part repeatedly, and recorded myself to correct flaws, just like the old man.
Eventually, I delivered the speech smoothly and learned that perseverance means staying committed, even when progress feels slow and obstacles pile up.
