Today my topic is Lesson4. What do you like to do At the very beginning, let me introduce the context of my design. My presentation will cover the following four parts, what to teach, whom to teach, where to go, and how to teach.Now let's come to part 1, what to teach. First, let me introduce the theoretical basis. According to the New English Curriculum Standard, core competence of English and the view of English learning activities, teachers should develop students’ ability of using comprehensive language.Second, Let’s take a look at the teaching materials. This lesson is taken from unit 3 of new standard Book 1 for grade7.The big idea of this unit is to help students understand themselves better.This is the whole frame of this unit.And I will analyse this text from 3 parts: what how and why. The type of the lesson is reading and writing. The topic is talking about hobby which belongs to the theme of man and self. It introduces the writer’s hobby-playing chess,the ways to develop it and some sayings about hobby so that students can learn to express personal hobby and meaning by using some sentence structure: such as “I like...It makes me...”.Moreover,students are able to sense the significance of hobbies.Let them build confidence and positive outlook on life.Besides the material, students are the most important part of a lesson.Now let's come to part 2, whom to teach. Student in grade 7 are curious, energetic, and they are visual learners. My target students have strengths and weakness. In short, they have acquired the vocabulary which is related to the topic. But they have difficulties in high level thinking and writing.So based on the detail analysis of the teaching material and the students.let's come to part 3, where to go. There are three levels of objectives in my lessons. For learning and understanding , students can comprehend the structure and main idea and get some information about personal hobby through different activities.For applying and practicing, students can practice the target language and write about their own hobbies.Finally, for transferring and creating, students understand the meaning of hobby,build self-confidence and positive view of life.To reach my aims, my teaching methods mainly includes Situational teaching method,Task-based Language Teaching method and communicative approach.The students will learn in a real situation ,in tasks, in group and individually.There are also three ways of evaluation: Self-evaluation, Teacher’s evaluation and Peer evaluation.So how do I realize the objectives in practice Let's come to part 4. How to teach. The lesson can be divide into five steps, pre-reading, while-reading, post-reading, summary, and homework. Here are the teaching activities.Now let's come to step 1. Pre-reading, there are three activities.Activity 1, Watch and repeat I will play a video about some hobbies and let the students repeat and do the actions together. Late I will ask students What the video is about Purpose:To arouse students’ interest quickly and lead in the topic.Activity 2 Free talk I will show some other hobbies.And let students talk about it with deskmates by using the sentences showed,such as what do you like to do I like to ...Purpose:To practice their speaking ability and activate their background knowledge.Activity 3, View and predict. I will let students predict the topic of this passage according to key words and pictures.Purpose:To develop students’ ability of observation and thinking.Now let's come to step 2. While-reading, there are four activities.Activity 1, Read and match I’ll guide students to read the text quickly and match the main idea.Purpose:To generalize the main idea of each paragraph and train skimming skills.Activity 2, Read and choose. After get the main idea of each paragraph,I will let students choose the structure of this passage.That would be easy.Purpose: To generalize the main structure of this text .Activity 3, Read and fill the mind map. In this part ,students will read para2&3 carefully and complete the mind map in groups.Here I will analyze how to describe hobby from what,why,how(黑板贴)Purpose: To break through the key information about writers’ hobby from:what,why and howActivity 4, Read and think There are two questions that the students need to think over.The first one is what can we learn from para.1 ,for example hobby is very important ,hobby makes us happy (黑板贴)and then expand some other sayings about hobby.Purpose:To arouse students’ deep thinking about hobby’s meaning and enrich their knowledge.The second question is what is the Chinese meaning of para.4 and how to understand it Let the students understand the importance of hobby, such as “we can’t live without hobby. A hobby makes life rich and colourful”.(黑板贴)Then I will also play a video to help them understand why hobby is as important as salt to life.Purpose: To help students -build correct and positive view on hobby and life.So let's come to step 3. Post-reading, there are three activities. Activity 1, Retelling With the help of the structure information, the student will work in a group of 6. and retell the passage one by one. And I will choose some of them to retell.. At the same time, I will show them the assessment of presentation. It will be evaluate by the teachers and the students.Activity 2 Practicing. I will show students more language points .Let the students to make sentences by using them and show them some other ways.Purpose:To transfer the knowledge into daily life so as to pave the way for writing.Activity 3 Writing, In this part,students will write their hobbies according to the tips I give them,including:what,why,how and saying.Then I will invite them to share it.Purpose:To let students use the target language to introduce hobby and train students’ writing and expressing ability.After that ,another student will also evaluate the writing according to the Evaluation form.The next part is summary and homework.I will lead students to sum up the key points and give a self-check about the whole lesson..Purpose:To summarize the key points learned today and evaluate their own performance.And here is the homework for different level studentsPurpose:Let students choose their best suitable way to consolidate and apply the knowledge.This is the blackboard design.I think it clearly and directly shows the key points.In the end, let me summarize the shining point in my class. The first one,use question driven approach to help students achieve deep learning. The second one, cultivate students critical thinking, quality and value. That's all for my presentation.
