When it takes days to get to a city, seeking medical help can be a challenge.
This is the reality in many villages in Amdo county,Nagchu city of the Xizang autonomous region. The county spans approximately 100,000 square kilometers, an area as vast as Jiangsu province. Due to the vastness and sparse (稀少的) population, a unique healthcare system has been established here.
Tsega has worked as a village doctor in Amdo for over 40 years, shuttling between grasslands and pastoral areas. “In the past, without vehicles, upon receiving messages about someone falling ill, sometimes I had to ride a horse, sometimes walk. It would take a four to fiveday round trip to some villages,” Tsega said.
With an average elevation exceeding 5,000 meters, conditions in Amdo make highaltitude cardiovascular diseases, gout (痛风) and high blood pressure relatively common.
Discovering his passion for healing and helping others in his early 20s, Tsega embarked on selfstudy of Tibetan and traditional Chinese medicines, and later pursued over a year of professional training at the People's Hospital in Nagchu, becoming proficient in Western medicine as well.
Drawing from his years of medical experience, he tailors treatment methods—be it Tibetan, Chinese, Western or a combination—based on each patient's needs. During his visits, he carries a variety of medications provided by the township hospital and purchases some himself.
Tsega believes that soaking in hot springs can help ease pain or prevent illnesses related to high altitude. Over the past decade, he has personally funded annual hot spring activities for the elderly, weak and disabled across the area.
In 1974, Tsega also cooperated with personnel from the Lanzhou military and geological teams for a 40day filming project, capturing the beauty and fragility of the Yangtze River's source. Since then, he has devoted his spare time to cleaning up the surrounding area, contributing to environmental protection efforts.

4.What made offering medical help difficult in the past in Amdo?
A.Sparse population.
B.Traffic inconvenience.
C.High altitude.
D.Environmental pollution.
根据第三段的句子“‘In the past, without vehicles, upon receiving messages about someone falling ill, sometimes I had to ride a horse, sometimes walk. It would take a four to fiveday round trip to some villages,’ Tsega said.(Tsega说‘在过去,没有交通工具,一接到有人生病的消息,我有时不得不骑马,有时不得不步行。往返一些村庄需要4到5天的时间。’)”可知,过去在安多,交通不便让提供医疗帮助变得困难。故选B。
5.What does the underlined phrase in paragraph 5 most probably mean?
A.fascinated by B.skilled at
C.gifted in D.blessed with
根据画线短语前面的部分“and later pursued over a year of professional training at the People's Hospital in Nagchu”可知,通过在那曲人民医院接受一年多的专业培训,Tsega肯定是熟练掌握了西医。
6.Which of the following best describes Tsega's personality?
A.committed and selfless
B.passionate and courageous

根据第三段“Tsega has worked as a village doctor in Amdo for over 40 years, shuttling between grasslands and pastoral areas. ‘In the past, without vehicles, upon receiving messages about someone falling ill, sometimes I had to ride a horse, sometimes walk. It would take a four to fiveday round trip to some villages,’ Tsega said.(Tsega在安多做了40多年的乡村医生,穿梭于草原和牧区之间。Tsega说:‘在过去,没有交通工具,一接到有人生病的消息,我有时不得不骑马,有时不得不步行。往返一些村庄需要4到5天的时间。’)”和第五段“Discovering his passion for healing and helping others in his early 20s, Tsega embarked on selfstudy of Tibetan and traditional Chinese medicines, and later pursued over a year of professional training at the People's Hospital in Nagchu, becoming proficient in Western medicine as well.(在他20岁出头的时候,他发现了自己对治疗和帮助他人的热情,开始自学藏医和中医,后来在那曲人民医院接受了一年多的专业培训,也熟练掌握了西医。)” 根据第六段的句子“During his visits, he carries a variety of medications provided by the township hospital and purchases some himself.(在就诊期间,他随身携带乡镇医院提供的各种药物,并自己购买一些。)”和第七段的句子“Over the past decade, he has personally funded annual hot spring activities for the elderly, weak and disabled across the area.(在过去的十年里,他个人资助了该地区为老人、弱者和残疾人举办的年度温泉活动。)” 故选A。

We tend to think of large cities as melting pots—places where people from various backgrounds can socialize and interact. However, according to a new research, people in big cities tend to primarily interact with other individuals of the same socioeconomic status, whereas people in small cities and rural areas are much more likely to have diverse interactions.
Researchers led by Stanford University used GPS data collected from 9.6 million cellphones across 382 metropolitan (大都市的) areas in the USA to determine how many times people had the opportunity to interact, even briefly, with someone in a different income bracket (阶层). The massive and precise data allowed the researchers to find that people living in the 10 most populous metropolitan areas, including cities like New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, along with their surrounding areas, were significantly less likely to interact with people of different socioeconomic status than people in areas with fewer residents.
“There's a large variety of choices in big cities. In New York, you can spend $10 on a dinner or $1,000 on a dinner, but if you live in a place with only one diner, everyone goes there, rich or poor. That seems to be the main mechanism for this phenomenon,” explained Jure Leskovec, a professor of computer science.
Fortunately, there are large cities that have managed to promote diverse interactions because the centers people visit the most—which turn out to be shopping malls, squares, and similar places—are between rich and poor neighborhoods. Those centers allow people to see each other and interact.
By providing a better understanding of how the location of public infrastructure (基础设施) can affect socioeconomic mixing, the researchers hope their work will assist urban planners in building cities that live up to the promise of promoting diverse interactions.
8.What might be a conclusion of the new research?
A.Large cities act as melting pots.
B.Urban residents interact more.
C.Big cities display socioeconomic separation.
D.Urbanization results in different social ranks.
由文章第一段“However, according to a new research, people in big cities tend to primarily interact with other individuals of the same socioeconomic status, whereas people in small cities and rural areas are much more likely to have diverse interactions.(然而,根据一项新的研究,大城市的人往往主要与具有相同社会经济地位的其他人互动,而小城市和农村地区的人更有可能进行多样化的互动。)”以及第二段“The massive and precise data allowed the researchers to find that people living in the 10 most populous metropolitan areas, including cities like New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, along with their surrounding areas, were significantly less likely to interact with people of different socioeconomic status than people in areas with fewer residents.(大量而精确的数据使研究人员发现,生活在10个人口最多的大都市地区的人,包括纽约市、洛杉矶和芝加哥等城市及其周边地区,与居民较少的地区的人相比,与不同社会经济地位的人互动的可能性要小得多。)”
9.How was the research carried out?
A.By bridging the income brackets.
B.By studying the frequency of interaction.
C.By comparing residents' behavior patterns.
D.By collecting data on people's social status.
由文章第二段“Researchers led by Stanford University used GPS data collected from 9.6 million cellphones across 382 metropolitan (大都市的) areas in the USA to determine how many times people had the opportunity to interact, even briefly, with someone in a different income bracket(阶层).(斯坦福大学领导的研究人员使用从美国382个大都市地区的960万部手机收集的GPS数据来确定人们有多少次有机会与不同收入阶层的人互动,即使是短暂的互动。)”
10.What does the underlined word “mechanism” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Principle B.Solution
C.Measure D.Function
由文章第三段“There's a large variety of...$1,000 on a dinner, but if you live in a place with only one diner, everyone goes there, rich or poor. That seems to be the main mechanism for this phenomenon(大城市有很多选择。在纽约,你可以花10美元吃一顿饭,也可以花1,000美元吃一次饭,但如果你住在一个只有一个食客的地方,每个人都会去那里,无论贫富。这似乎是这种现象的主要 ,)”可知,这里指大城市有很多选择,这就是会出现社会经济分层的“原则或者理由”。所以猜测mechanism表“原则或者理由”的意思。故选A。
11.What might be the solution to the problem according to the text?
A.Organizing activities involving rich and poor people.
B.Building similar infrastructure in different neighborhoods.
C.Placing frequentlyvisited centers between neighborhoods.
D.Establishing more convenient centers for different people.
由倒数第二段“Fortunately, there are large cities that have managed to promote diverse interactions because the centers people visit the most—which turn out to be shopping malls, squares, and similar places—are between rich and poor neighborhoods. Those centers allow people to see each other and interact.(幸运的是,有一些大城市设法促进了多样化的互动,因为人们拜访最多的中心——原来是购物中心、广场和类似的地方——位于富人和穷人社区之间。这些中心允许人们互相见面和互动。)”可知,在社区之间放置经常光顾的中心可能是解决问题的办法。故选C。

Born in 1961, Snoussi, a Frenchman, first came to China in 1983. At that time, he was a law student at AixenProvence University and accompanied his father on a business trip to China.
1. .In March 2006, Snoussi moved to Ningbo to help his father who had set up his export business. After living there for more than seven years, Snoussi realized that what he missed most was a traditional French bakery. “ 2. , which made Chinese, Korean, or Europeanstyle bread, but we couldn't find that specific French taste. It was unlike our daily bread, because in my home country, bread is a bit like rice in China,” he explained. In June 2013,Snoussi opened an authentic (正宗的) French bakery in Ningbo. Though he had no baking experience, he quickly learned the ropes from a French baker. 3. .
What makes Mon Epoque unique is its authentic French identity, which guarantees a genuine French taste every day. “We are one of the few French bakeries in China that directly imports flour from France, produced in the Cognac region from French wheat. 4. . These are the two most important ingredients in baking. This allows us to guarantee the same taste and quality day in, day out. We pay attention to the quality and the taste of our products so that our patrons can experience the same feeling every day,” he said.
5. . In 2008, he donated over 30,000 yuan ($4,300) to Wenchuan in Sichuan Province. In Ningbo, he donated Tshirts for students with disabilities and gave scholarships to outstanding students at a school. For several years, he sponsored (赞助) the Pink Ribbon Campaign organized by a team of foreign women to raise awareness about breast cancer. He also sponsored activities to encourage more people to look after stray dogs.
A.This French baker was famous for his unique bakery
B.Snoussi is keen on social activities in Ningbo
C.The butter used is also imported from France
D.Snoussi enjoys helping people in need
E.This visit was a culture shock for him
F.He named his brand Mon Epoque
G.We had good bakeries in Ningbo
1.E 根据第一段“Born in 1961, Snoussi, a Frenchman, first came to China in 1983. At that time, he was a law student at AixenProvence University and accompanied his father on a business trip to China.(斯努西出生于1961年,是法国人,1983年第一次来到中国。当时,他是普罗旺斯艾克斯大学法律系的学生,随父亲去中国出差。)”可知,这次访问对他来说是一次文化冲击。所以选择E项符合上下文语境,选项中的“This visit”指代的是斯努西首次中国行。故选E。
2.G 根据后半句“which made Chinese, Korean, or Europeanstyle bread, but we couldn't find that specific French taste.(它生产中国、韩国或欧洲风格的面包,但我们找不到那种特别的法国味道。)”
3.F 根据前文“In June 2013,Snoussi opened an authentic (正宗的) French bakery in Ningbo. Though he had no baking experience, he quickly learned the ropes from a French baker.(2013年6月,斯努西在宁波开了一家正宗的法式烘焙店。虽然他没有烘焙经验,但他很快就从一位法国面包师那里学会了诀窍。)”可知,斯努西将自己的品牌命名为Mon Epoque。所以选择F项符合上下文语境。本题很容易误选A项,但是如果选A项,则下一段中的Mon Epoque出现太突然,段落衔接不上。故选F。
4.C 根据前句“We are one of the few French bakeries in China that directly imports flour from France, produced in the Cognac region from French wheat.(我们是中国少数几家直接从法国进口面粉的法国面包店之一,这些面粉是在干邑地区用法国小麦生产的。)”
5.D 根据后文“In 2008,he donated over 30,000 yuan($4,300)to Wenchuan in Sichuan Province. In Ningbo, he donated Tshirts for students with disabilities and gave scholarships to outstanding students at a school. For several years, he sponsored (赞助) the Pink Ribbon Campaign organized by a team of foreign women to raise awareness about breast cancer. He also sponsored activities to encourage more people to look after stray dogs.(2008年,他向四川汶川捐赠了3万多元人民币(合4,300美元)。在宁波,他为残疾学生捐赠T恤,并为一所学校的优秀学生提供奖学金。几年来,他赞助了由一群外国妇女组织的粉红丝带运动,以提高人们对乳腺癌的认识。他还赞助了一些活动,鼓励更多的人照顾流浪狗。)”尤其是“donated” “sponsored”这两个关键词可知,本段主要是讲斯努西乐善好施,愿意帮助有需要的人。所以选择D项作为本段主题句最为合适。故选D。
