There are many things to do at home when my parents are away. For example, I can get up on time. That's important, because I do not want to be late for school! I can also make my bed, although I often don't do it. I have a lot of homework every day, so I go to bed late. I am so tired that I cannot get up early enough to make my bed. I can go shopping for food, but I prefer to buy some fast food because it’s convenient. But I cook at home sometimes because it is cheaper.

I can also wash my clothes. but I can't iron them. 该句是一个宾语从句，主句是“Then I realised…”，从句是“being home alone was not always perfect”。从句的主语是动名词“being home alone”。动名词(短语)作主语时，谓语动词需用第三人称单数形式。
