教材分析
本单元的主题为Education(教育),本课是Reading(阅读)课时部分,话题为Enlightening a Mind(启迪智慧)。这是一篇记叙文,以从小因病失聪失明的海伦凯勒如何在安妮老师的启蒙下打开知识的大门为例,阐释教育的本质和意义。本文故事生动有趣,语言丰富,层次分明,比较容易激发学生学习的兴趣和热情,让各个层次的学生们都能在课堂的思维碰撞中,真正理解教育的意义。
学情分析
在高一英语学习基础上,高二学生已经掌握基本的语言结构和一定程度的听说读写能力。但整篇文章较长,在阅读过程中,结合学生原有的阅读水平,采取递进式版块阅读,降低部分学生阅读畏难心理。充分发挥学生主体作用,设置思维型问题,引导学生步步深入,思考感悟。融入学生感兴趣的活动,让他们积极到课堂活动中来。
教学目标
1.知识目标
培养学生通读,分析,理解,综合的能力。在阅读过程中培养学生的观察力、分析力、想象力和自学能力,提高思维能力和运用英语的综合能力。
2.能力目标
利用多媒体手段营造积极和谐教学氛围,使学生进入情景之中,充分调动学生的思维活动和情感体验,引导学生深入思考,提升思维品质。同时,发展学生综合语言运用的能力,分析问题和解决问题的能力。
3.德育目标
向曾经的启蒙老师表达感激感情,弘扬尊师重教美德, 帮助学生建立正确的价值观。

教学策略
通过小组讨论,角色扮演等具体形式,创设有利于学生自我认识、自我反省、自我调节的情境。因此,本课采用教学方法一任务型教学法。以任务为中心,任务的设计焦点是解决学生阅读中需要深度思考的问题。从学生“学”的角度来设计教学活动,使学生的学习活动具有明确的目标。在各种“任务”中,学生能够不断地,深入地获得知识并得出结论。
七、学习策略:
本课将阅读活动反馈设计成思维导图、折线图等检测学习效果,让问题情景化,知识结构化,思维可视化。帮助学生养成自主学习与合作学习的能力,培养创新意识和实践能力。

九、教学过程
Step I Lead in (Video)
Get students to watch a video of light.While watching, they should try to remember the objects they can see(light, fire,darkness...). Then connect the darkness and light with Helen Keller and Anne. Anne is like a light, enlightening the mind of Helen.
A light can enlighten the darkness. In the same way, education can enlighten a mind. In this way, the teacher can introduce the topic of this unit and this lesson smoothly.
Step II Fast-reading
Read the text and get the main ideas of the two parts.
Part 1 (Para.1-2)__________________________________________________________________

Get students to read the text quickly and silently and get the main ideas of the two parts. Then they can better grasp the structure of the text.
Step III Careful-reading
Read paragraphs 1-2 of the story and find the characteristics(特征) of Helen and Anne.

Get students to read the first two paragraphs loudly and find the characteristics of Helen and Anne. Then they will watch a video to see how unbearable Helen’s behavior was. In this way, they can imagine how hard it is for Anne to teach and inspire Helen.
Read paragraphs 3-5 and complete the mind map.
Role play: Anne, Helen and a narrator (旁白)
Get students to read paragraphs 3-5 carefully and complete the mind map to learn about Helen’s learning process of “doll” and“water”. Then they will take part in a role play to experience it. In the end, lead them to find the common points of the two words: simple and concrete(具体的;有形的).
Read paragraphs 6-11 and think.

Get students to read paragraphs 6-11 and choose the right diagram to show Helen’s learning process of “love”. The answer will be analyzed after finishing task 4.

Get students to read paragraphs 9-11 again carefully and loudly to learn Helen’s learning process of “love” and how Anne enlightened her to understand abstract words. This task will help student better understand the diagram in task 3.
Then the teacher will lead the students to review the process of leaning the word “love” and how Anne enlightened her.Get the students to realise that learning is a gradual and painful process, but Helen keep trying and finally made a breakthrough with the help of her super and patient teacher, Anne. That is the true meaning of education. Then they will finish post-reading more easily.
Step IV Post-reading
How can a mind be enlightened
After reading the whole text and finishing all the tasks above, get students to truly understand the meaning of education. And this diagram will make the understanding more vivid and visible.
If you were a teacher, can you think of ways to teach little Helen the word“wind”
This task is designed to expand the understanding of students and inspire them to imagine and to create their own thinking pattern.
Step V Express yourself
