Many people struggle to say “no” to requests from others, both in the workplace and their personal lives, which leaves them feeling exhausted.Saying no isn't always negative.__1__ Declining the tasks we can't handle is an exercise in self care. It's about respecting our own time, energy, and personal limits, and being respected in return. It's also about reducing stress and learning how to set boundaries.
However, saying no isn't easy for some people.__2__ For these people, a “soft no” can be a good start. This involves providing an explanation, without being overly apologetic. For instance, “Thank you so much for asking me to work on this project. It sounds really interesting, but I can't handle this right now.” Over time, as confidence grows, use “hard no” responses.A “hard no” is firm, clear, and brief. For example, “No, thank you,” or “Thank you, but I'm not available this week.” Saying no gets easier the more we practice.
__3__ However, we should only accept requests that match with our personal values, make us feel good, and for which we truly have the time and energy.
Perhaps we worry unnecessarily about saying no to other people.A recent study showed that the negative consequences of declining requests are less than we think, especially in social situations.Furthermore, we tend to overestimate how others will react to our refusals.__4__
Of course, having difficulty saying no isn't a mental illness. If it's a persistent concern, however, it might be a sign of something deeper.__5__ In these cases, seeking treatment can allow the person to deal with any underlying issues.
A.It can be a healthy thing.
B.It can be a skill that requires intentional practice.
C.Saying yes to everything is a people pleasing behavior.
D.Learning to say no doesn't mean we can't ever say yes.
E.This behavior can reveal low self esteem or personality disorders.
F.In fact, most reactions are far more positive or neutral than we anticipate.
G.We might fear refusing a request will anger our friends, family and peers.

第4题因受G项“We might fear refusing a request will anger our friends, family and peers”中“拒绝请求—惹怒他人”这一表面联系吸引,造成错选。但G项与前文“we tend to overestimate how others will react”并非对比关系,而是原因解释,错选会造成语篇逻辑混乱,导致连环错。
We tend to think that our success is limited because of lack of money, time, and energy, but this is not necessarily true.Lack of self worth is often the biggest roadblock on our path to living a fulfilling life. Not all of us recognize our individual worth and the contributions we make to the world.__6__
It might seem natural to measure your value by your income, physical appearance, job title, or social media popularity.__7__ Because these aspects of your life can change at any moment, it's more useful to consider inner values such as compassion, generosity, leadership, respect, and kindness.__8__ We all have a self talk that points out our shortcomings and failures.Whenever you begin criticizing yourself, stop and pause for a minute.Consider the virtue of what this voice is telling you.Is what you hear an objective fact Is it useful and kind If the answer is no, then this criticism is not worth paying attention to.
You alone are responsible for your self worth.Regardless of other people's words, thoughts, and opinions about you, you can still choose how you view yourself.__9__ Don't wait for people to confirm your value.Instead, do it with your internal dialogue and your actions.
We all mess up sometimes — it's part of being human.__10__ It's easy to extend kindness and forgiveness to others, but you have to do yourself the same favor. There's no point in worrying about your mistakes or upsetting over the not so good decisions from the past.Self compassion is about believing that you are worthy of love regardless of what you do or fail to do.
A.Don't let your inner critic rule your thoughts.
B.What matters is what you think about yourself.
C.All these do not determine your value and self worth.
D.But when you do, you must forgive yourself and let it go.
E.Treat yourself with the love and care that others give you.
F.However, you can build self worth by practicing self care.
G.Pay attention to the perceptions about where you should be.

第7题因受G项“Pay attention to the perceptions about where you should be”中的perceptions (看法)与前文 measure your value (衡量价值)的表面联系吸引,造成错选。

Passage 1
Passage 2
