Have you ever thought of yourself as a hero of a great adventure (冒险) Yes OK, congratulations!
A recent study shows that seeing your life as a hero’s journey could help you achieve a more meaningful life.
The idea was first made popular by the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces written by Joseph Campbell, in 1949. The book describes the process of the hero’s journey. Much like stories like Mulan or Harry Potter, a hero usually goes through an adventure, faces great challenges, and returns home changed for the better.
Benjamin A.Rogers, a writer of the study, says, “Seeing your life as a hero can improve health, increase satisfaction, and lower sadness. It just takes some imagination.”
How can you start imagining your life as a hero’s journey Here’s some advice from experts.
Imagine your favorite heroes.
First, ask yourself: What makes you you Write down your personality, beliefs and life events. Then, think of your favorite heroes and ask yourself: What would I do if I were them What would they do if they were in my situation These questions would help you learn from their good qualities.
Try to think and do like a true hero.
When you are going through a hard time, try to see your challenges as a chance to grow—that’s what a hero always does. As heroes often go on adventures, you can also try something new in your life like walking a new way to school or borrowing a bike from a neighbor.
Think of your heroes when needed.
When facing big challenges, think of your hero’s story for guidance and encouragement.
Remember: when you think you are a hero, you are!

三、任务型阅读(满分10分)
阅读下面材料,从所给的A-D四个选项中选出正确选项(其中一项是多余选项),并回答问题。
How to be a high self-esteem (自尊) person
Let go of negative (消极的) thoughts about yourself. Negative thoughts often come from outside people whose opinions we value. Think deeply about the meaning of those negative thoughts and tell yourself a different story.
Everything you’ve done and everywhere you’ve been is a part of who you are. Self-love isn’t about fixing all the “bad” things about yourself. Instead, accept that they’re all parts of the same whole.
Pay more attention to the effort you put into completing a task, rather than look for the results. If you expect yourself to be perfect all the time, you’ll never be pleased with anything you produce.
Speak to yourself kindly. When you call yourself a name, such as failure, you reduce yourself to a single thing that you don’t like—you’re not treating yourself as a whole person.
A.Try to be kind to yourself!
B.Accept your weaknesses as part of who you are.
C.Ask others about your weaknesses and strengths.
D.Enjoy the effort rather than the result.

Dear Linda,
I am glad you’re interested in Spring Festival. I’m writing to tell you about it.
The Spring Festival usually falls in January or February. Before it, we clean our houses to sweep away bad luck. On New Year’s Eve, families get together to have a big meal. During the festival, we visit relatives and give red envelopes to children.
It means family reunion, good luck and a new start. I love it because I can enjoy delicious food and spend happy time with my family.
What festivals do you celebrate in the UK
Yours,
Li Hua
