第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Car-Free Zones from Around the World
Let’s take a closer look at some of the world’s most unique car-free zones.
Giethoorn, Netherlands
Given Amsterdam’s obsession with cycling, Giethoorn’s car-free status shouldn’t come as a surprise. The town is located on the northern coast of the Netherlands. Like Amsterdam, small canals run through most of the town — and a large total of 180 bridges allows locals to get around.
Fes el-Bali, Morocco
Fes is one of Morocco’s largest cities. Its old town is known for its winding, ancient and small streets — they almost look like something out of Harry Potter. Because the streets are so small, cars can’t access the busiest streets. Thousands of carless streets wind in the city center, full of local markets, merchants, and shops.
Zermatt, Switzerland
Located high in the Swiss Alps near the country’s tallest mountain (Matterhorn), you’ll find a charming old village called Zermatt. Though it resembles other Alpine towns in terms of size and population, there are no cars. This is the result of some careful city-planning, as locals worked together to protect their view. This historic island has been occupied for centuries — you’ll notice this antiquity (古迹) in its cobbled streets. Given its remote nature, there are no cars allowed.
La Cumbrecita, Argentina
In case you didn’t know, there’s a major Alpine influence in Argentina. This is thanks to the number of central European immigrants who packed up and headed to the country throughout the 20th century. Many sought to recreate elements of their homes in Argentina — particularly its mountainous Calamuchita Valley. This snowy, Alps-inspired town went the way of Zermatt, officially banning cars in order to preserve its quaint (古雅的) charm.
1. Which place might fans of Harry Potter be fond of
A. Giethoorn. B. Fes el-Bali. C. Zermatt. D. La Cumbrecita.
2. For urban scenic preservation, which two countries have cities that ban automobiles
A. Netherlands and Argentina. B. Netherlands and Morocco.
C. Morocco and Switzerland. D. Argentina and Switzerland.
3. In which column of a magazine might this article be found
A. Market Pulse. B. Green Futures. C. Urban Mobility. D. Must-See Spots.

Last summer, a group of students from Oregon State University participated in a “mini bee school” course at the Dufferin Park Wetlands in Kamloops, British Columbia (BC). During the course, they got along well with bee-loving locals.
Under the guidance of professional entomologists (昆虫学者) like Boonie Zand, the students took a two-day workshop on catching, observing, and cataloging bees. In the end, the students walked away as trained contributors for a new “bee atlas (地图册)” for the Native Bee Society of BC — the first bee record of its kind in the Canadian province. Modelled after the Oregon Bee Atlas, the record was designed to aid conservation efforts by training locals to identify bee species — and help classify new ones.
Months later, the growing bee atlas has proved very fruitful. So far, BC Bee Atlas volunteers have collected over 2,400 samples in the province and recorded 110 different species. They even discovered several new specimens of Perdita, or “fairy bees” — unique little bees that are less than two millimeters long.
And Zand thinks the new bees present an exciting mystery. “In 2018 a species checklist was published for BC, and it has two species of Perdita on it,” Zand explained. “We collected a few specimens of Perdita that does not occur on that list, and so it’s not one of the two species that we know here, so I’m still trying to figure out exactly what species it is.”
Zand said Kamloops, Canada is an ideal place of bee diversity because bees love the region’s hot, dry climate. “You’re going to have a lot more species that you might find there than in other places, like on the coast or further up in the north,” she said, in reference to the atlas’ growing catalog. “So it’s a great spot to find new records, which help us learn more about the bee diversity of BC.”
4. Why did the students participate in the bee school
A. To learn to raise bees. B. To acquire credits.
C. To help conserve a species. D. To observe insect behaviors.
5. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The characteristics of fairy bees.
B. The success of the bee atlas initiative.
C. The decline of local bee populations.
D. The establishment of the bee atlas project.
6. How did Zand feel at the finding of the fairy bees
A. Curious. B. Awkward. C. Confused. D. Calm.
7. What makes Kamloops an ideal habitat for bees according to Zand
A. Global warming. B. Rich plant variety.
C. Human protection efforts. D. Geographic conditions.

When we talk about sustainability in the tech sector the conversation often begins and ends with e-waste. The core issue isn’t merely the waste itself, but the system behind it, driven by overproduction and excessive consumption (过度消费). The smartphones, laptops and tablets we upgrade so frequently are responsible not only for mountains of discarded electronics but also for vast carbon emissions (排放), most of which are generated before the device even reaches our hands.
True sustainability in consumer electronics doesn’t start at the point of disposal (处理); it starts at the point of production. If we want to curb the environmental impact of our tech, we need to shift our focus at the source and rethink how and how often devices are made, marketed and consumed.
Addressing the environmental harms of fast tech requires a shift from overconsumption to thoughtful, sustainable care. This begins with making the most of the devices we already own. Extending their lifespan, rather than upgrading prematurely, is one of the most effective ways to reduce carbon emissions and e-waste.
When devices break, repair should be the first option. However, for some consumers, limited access to parts and support can make this difficult. Where repair isn’t possible, reselling to a professional is a far better choice than letting it gather dust in a drawer. And when a replacement is genuinely needed, choosing a second-hand or professionally repaired device can drastically reduce the environmental footprint compared to buying a new one.
Recycling still plays a role, but it should be seen as a last resort, not the go-to solution. After all, no amount of recycling can make up for the emissions created in the production phase, which is where the majority of a device’s impact lies.
This shift in mindset isn’t just about personal choices; it’s about acknowledging that the way we use and hold onto our tech has significant effects across the entire system. Thoughtful consumption matters. But to have a lasting impact, it must be part of a broader, structural shift across the industry.
8. What does the underlined part “curb” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Ignore. B. Control. C. Measure. D. Promote.
9. What does the author suggest to lower e-waste
A. Recycling more frequently. B. Shifting the design of devices.
C. Upgrading devices annually. D. Lengthening the use of devices.
10. What should consumers do if a device is beyond repair
A. Take it apart. B. Store it for future use.
C. Resell it. D. Throw it into regular trash.
11. Why is recycling positioned as a final solution
A. It fails to address emissions. B. It is a personal choice.
C. It is inconvenient. D. It increases the cost.
D
Studies have shown that many people don’t commute by bike due mainly to a fear of being hit by cars. A new bike-mounted proximity (接近) sensor has been designed to help such folks, by objectively telling them which streets are the safest for cyclists.
The new device (装置), ProxiCycle, simply replaces the bike’s existing left-side handlebar plug, where it uses two special light sensors to monitor the spaces directly beside and immediately behind the bicycle. Whenever an object is detected, the ProxiCycle employs a Bluetooth module to transmit the sensor data to an app on the cyclist’s smartphone.
That app uses a special computer program to determine if the detected object was an automobile, and if it passed less than 1 m from the bike. If the reading meets both of those criteria, it is saved as an example of a motorized vehicle that passed the cyclist too closely. The idea is that over a relatively short period of time, readings gathered from multiple ProxiCycle users could be used to paint a realistic picture of just how dangerous various streets actually are.
In an initial test of the technology, 7 cyclists rode through Seattle with both the device and an action camera mounted on their bike. Close-passing incidents recorded by the ProxiCycle were found to match up with those captured by the camera.
Next, 15 Seattle cyclists used the device while going on a combined total of 240 bike rides over a two-month period. They recorded 2,050 close passes in that time, with the majority of the incidents taking place in locations where higher-than-average numbers of bike-car collisions had already been reported.
The incidents also mostly occurred in areas that cyclists had previously perceived as being dangerous. Importantly, however, the sensor data proved to be a more accurate indicator of just how dangerous those places actually were. Researchers now plan on conducting larger-scale studies, which will include testing the ProxiCycle in other cities.
12. What is the primary reason why people avoid cycling according to the study
A. Concern of safety. B. Unskilled riding.
C. Fear of passers-by. D. Lack of bikeway.
13. How does the ProxiCycle sensor assist cyclists
A. By monitoring traffic. B. By sending GPS signals.
C. By giving out warnings. D. By sensing the safety distance.
14. What can we know about the sensor from the last paragraph
A. It is perceived dangerous. B. It is still in the testing stage.
C. It can ensure riders’ security. D. It records incidents on roads.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Improving Traffic Safety for Bicycle Users
B. Smartphone Apps for Navigation Assistance
C. ProxiCycle: a Sensor to Enhance Cyclist Safety
D. Developing Environmentally Friendly Bike Materials

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
We all know that we should exercise more, but for many people, the biggest psychological obstacle (心理障碍) is that they feel they simply can’t spare an hour. If you have ever felt guilty for not exercising or have encountered difficulties in time management, then “exercise snacks” might be the solution.
“Exercise snacks” is a new term, referring to short, conscious exercises lasting no more than five minutes. ____16____ Unlike the junk food snacks of the “couch potato” type, these “exercise snacks” are a guilt-free way that makes improving health conditions doable.
A systematic review and analysis found that exercise snacks can significantly improve the cardio-pulmonary (心肺的) function of people who are not physically active. ____17____ As the authors explain, exercise snacks may enhance commitment to regular physical activity by providing short, flexible exercise periods that are easier to integrate into daily routines.
____18____ Instead of carving out an hour at the gym, incorporate (合并) short periods of movement (five minutes or less) into your routine at least twice a day, and make it a habit.
Psychologically, snacking on exercise impacts the workout effect. ____19____It’s more about taking advantage of small windows of opportunity in a practical and realistic way.
Achievable goals can inspire motivation. A task that takes only five minutes feels manageable, and the satisfying “ding, ding, ding” feeling of successfully completing a small snack exercise releases the “reward molecule (分子)” — dopamine, therefore strengthening the formation of habits. ____20____
A. It’s less about discipline or willpower.
B. Climbing stairs in your office building also works.
C. They are particularly effective for those who sit for long.
D. Fitness isn’t something you have to do in big blocks of time.
E. The concept challenges the traditional “all-or-nothing” mindset.
F. Therefore, the key is to do them several times throughout the day.
G. These small wins build confidence, the belief in your ability to succeed.

Sixteen-year-old Grant Mullen had always been different from his classmates. While many teenagers focused on video games and social media, Grant found joy in helping others. His compassionate nature stemmed from the countless hours he spent with his father volunteering at the Specialized Needs recreation (SNR) center in their hometown of Boise, Idaho.
As Grant’s seventeenth birthday approached, his parents noticed he seemed deep in thought. One evening at dinner, his mother asked what he was thinking about. Grant looked up from his plate and said, “Mom, I’ve been thinking about my birthday. Instead of having my usual party with just our family and close friends, I want to do something special.”
His parents exchanged curious glances. “What do you have in mind, sweetheart ” his father asked gently.
Grant’s eyes brightened as he explained his idea. “I want to invite everyone at the SNR center to celebrate with me. Many of them have never been to a birthday party before and I think everyone deserves to feel special on their birthday.”
His mother’s face softened with emotion. “That’s a beautiful idea, Grant. But are you sure It might be a big crowd.”
“I’m sure,” Grant replied firmly. “They always smile when we visit, and they’ve taught me so much about happiness and friendship.”
The next weekend, Grant and his father visited the center to extend the invitations. Grant also spoke to the staff at SNR, explaining his plan. They were thrilled and offered to help with the preparations.
One by one, Grant approached each person at the center. Eight-year-old Tommy, who rarely spoke, managed to whisper “thank you” with a huge smile. Middle-aged Robert, who used a wheelchair, wiped away tears of gratitude. Even the shy teenagers who usually kept to themselves began chatting excitedly about the upcoming celebration.
