But not Jacky Hunt-Broersma. In total, she ran 104 marathons in 104 days. If it's confirmed by Guinness World Records, that would be a new world record. And she did it all with one leg and a prosthesis (假肢).“Someone able-bodied had done it previously. I wanted to see if I could do it on a prosthetic leg and see what would happen,” she said. “I thought it would be a great way to inspire others to push their limits because I truly believe that we're stronger than what we think. And I've been so pleasantly surprised that my body is held up, everything is held up and I've made it to 104.”She actually did not pick up the sport until after she lost the lower part of her left leg in 2001 to a type of cancer called Ewing sarcoma. Runners using a prosthetic leg can't use a regular one. They need a running blade (刀锋式跑步义肢). Hunt-Broersma has two, but she was only able to run with one because of the swelling she experienced in her left leg that made it impossible to connect to the other blade. But even with the pain that occurred, she has been able to put up with it and continued. All together, Hunt-Broersma ran over 4, 385 kilometers. During that time she has had a lot of time to think and has learned a few things about herself. “It has taught me how strong one can be and how important absolute determination is. If you're mentally strong, you can do anything,” she said. “And our bodies are just amazing...This whole journey was impressive and super hard, but it's told me how strong I can be as a person and how far I can push myself.”【语篇解读】 本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了Jacky Hunt-Broersma虽然由于癌症而左腿截肢,但是借助假肢连续104天跑104场马拉松的励志故事。24.Why did Hunt-Broersma decide to run marathons?( )A.She wanted to set a new record.B.She intended to challenge herself.C.She was driven by her interest.D.She was inspired by people like her.答案:B解析:推理判断题。根据第二段中“‘Someone able-bodied had done it previously. It's the largest lake in South America. Dotted along the lake's western corner, you can find dozens of artificial islands. Several thatched (茅草的) houses and structures sit on each island, some of which are only 30 meters or so wide, although larger ones exist. The floating platforms are built by piling layers upon layers of mixed totora (芦苇) roots. The totora plant is necessary to life on the lake. Its strong root fibers are used to make houses, boats, roofs, mattresses, and more, as well as used to make tea, traditional medicine, and tasty dishes known as “lake banana”.So the story goes, this unusual living arrangement emerged in the pre-Columbian era when the ambitious Inca Empire began invading (入侵) into the mainland villages of Uros. The Uros villages moved to Lake Titicaca where they built these floating platforms. If invading Inca came their way, the Uros could push these artificial islands out to the middle of the lake and flee their attack. The threat of the Inca Empire has long passed, but the tradition remains strong. Even today, it's estimated that around 1,300 people live on some 100 constructed islands on Lake Titicaca. Maintaining the lifestyle isn't easy. While totora is a tough material, the thatched organic material degrades due to the forces of nature over time, meaning the islands and homes are in a constant state of repair. However, the traditional way of life isn't without its modern benefits. Many of the islands have solar panels that power lights, radios, and television satellites. The lake's artificial islands have also become a must-see spectacle for tourists, with some locals even renting out their totora-thatched homes to travelers on Airbnb.【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。文章主要叙述几个世纪前土著乌鲁斯人在的的喀喀湖上建造了一些人工浮岛,其建造材料、原因及现今状况。28.What is the second paragraph mainly about?( )A.The value of the totora plant.B.The process to build the islands.C.The islands made of water plants.D.The tradition and history of the Uros.答案:A解析:段落大意题。根据第二段“浮动平台是由层层叠加的芦苇混合而成。芦苇是湖上生活不可或缺的一部分。其坚固的根茎纤维用于制造房屋、船只、屋顶、床垫等,也用于泡茶、传统药物和被称为‘湖香蕉’的烹饪菜肴。”可知,该段主要讲述芦苇的价值所在。故选A。29.Why did Uros build dozens of artificial islands in the lake?( )A.To live an independent life.B.To preserve their old lifestyle.C.To build thatched houses on them.D.To protect themselves from invading Inca.答案:D解析:细节理解题。根据第三段的“If invading Inca came their way, the Uros could push these artificial islands out to the middle of the lake and flee their attack.(如果印加人来袭,乌鲁斯人可以将这些人工岛推到湖中央,以逃避他们的攻击。)”可知,乌鲁斯人建这些人工岛屿是为了保护自己,逃避印加帝国的攻击。故选D。30.What would visitors like to see on the artificial islands?( )A.The Uros' centuries-old tradition.B.The ruins of totora-thatched homes.C.The modern devices invented by Uros.D.The Inca Empire in the pre-Columbian era.答案:A解析:推理判断题。根据第三段中“So the story goes, this unusual living arrangement emerged in the pre-Columbian era when the ambitious Inca Empire began invading (入侵) into the mainland villages of Uros. A typical microwave can cook an entire chicken in 16 minutes. That's 3 times faster than the best convection oven (对流烤箱). We still stand in front of microwaves, impatiently tapping our feet, waiting for popcorn to pop.Modern consumer technology and the Internet have only amplified that convenience impatience. We have emails that literally travel around the world in seconds, and yet we still ask the recipient: Did you get it Where is it It should be there. A file that takes more than 10 seconds to download is considered a crime. And we're suddenly faced with a digital queue. The system can't serve us all at once and asks us to wait. But waiting is a chain in our DNA that is breaking up. This leads to the toe tapping, fingers pianoing on the desk, pen chewing, and eventually hair-pulling as if the thought of waiting a few minutes will drive us mad.Millennials and Gen Z are products of an instant-response childhood. They've long lived in a world where their every thought is met with instant response in texts and social media. In real life, these same people have no idea how to wait for a response. The assumption (设想) is that real world works exactly the same as digital. But the system in a company or government doesn't move at anything near digital speed. In fact, it often moves as slowly as it did in the pre-Internet age. There's a disconnect between these waits and most of our lives lived through technology. We are biology living in a digital space, enjoying the benefits of instant answers and access, but unable to change our own programming to match its speed. Operating at digital and Internet speed is a great benefit, but we forget that somewhere in the instant access path is often a comparatively slow-moving and slow-thinking human, who can only do so much, and only at a certain pace. When people say slow down, take a breath, they usually mean that you should step back from a busy moment. But this should also include stepping back from your instant-access existence to see that not everything can happen right away. Most of the time, it just doesn't need to. 【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。本文讨论了现代科技与互联网带来的便利使人们变得更加急躁,无法耐心等待,尤其是对于那些习惯于即时回应的千禧一代和Z世代。文章建议我们需要适应现实世界中的等待,并认识到并非所有事情都需要立即完成。32.What does the underlined word “amplified” in Paragraph 2 mean?( )A.Balanced. The night before the big day, I carefully packed my backpack with the essentials: pens, erasers, my ID card, and my exam admission ticket. My parents wished me good luck and reminded me to go to sleep early. Feeling confident, I went to bed to make sure I would be well-rested.The next morning, I woke up feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. After breakfast, I grabbed my backpack and headed to the bus stop. As I boarded the bus, I suddenly remembered that I had forgotten to pack my pencils, which were necessary for filling out the answer sheet. Panic set in. There was no time to go back home and fetch them, and the nearest store was too far away.Desperate, I looked around the bus, hoping to spot a fellow student who might have a spare pencil. My eyes landed on a girl about my age, sitting a few seats ahead, lost in her notes. Gathering my courage, I approached her and explained my dilemma (困境), hoping she might be able to help.To my surprise, she didn't hesitate. She opened her pencil case and pulled out a couple of pencils, handing them to me with a reassuring smile. “I always carry extra ones, just in case,” she said. “You can take these.”Relief washed over me as I accepted the pencils, thanking her sincerely. We chatted for a bit, and I learned that her name was Mei, and that she was also heading to the same exam center. She wished me luck, and we parted ways once we arrived. With the pencils in hand, I felt a renewed sense of confidence as I entered the exam hall. The exam went smoothly, and I felt I had done my best.注意: 1.续写词数应为 150 个左右;2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。参考范文:After the exam, I searched for Mei to return her pencils. I wandered through the bustling crowd of students, scanning faces and hoping to spot her. Finally, I saw her near the entrance, chatting with some friends. I approached her and handed back the pencils, expressing my heartfelt gratitude once again. Mei smiled warmly and shook her head. “There's no need to thank me,” she said. “Helping someone in need is something we all should do. Just remember to pass on the kindness whenever you can.”Inspired by Mei's kindness, I decided to pass it on. A few weeks later, I noticed a classmate, Li, struggling with his homework in the library. Remembering Mei's words, I sat down with Li and patiently explained the concepts he was struggling with. His face lit up with relief and gratitude, just as I did when Mei helped me. Helping him not only lifted his spirits but also brightened my day. From that moment on, I realized that at any time I could help someone, whether it was sharing my notes, offering a kind word, or simply lending an ear.(共87张PPT)Section Ⅱ Reading and Thinking内容索引02.研学案 素养为本精讲精练学·语言要点知识用·中频词汇句式03.晚练(二)01.预学案 知识为基听说读写练·课堂5分钟夯基01.预学案 知识为基听说读写语篇精读 形成阅读能力Task 1框架宏观建构:整体理解1.What's the main idea of the text A.Money is everything.B.Lucky Henry.C.A bet between two wealthy men.D.Honesty is priceless.√2.Skim the text and fill in the blanks.making a betwas spottedEnglandpersuaded[阅读策略点拨] 理解文字暗含信息需要读者从字面意思上进行推理判断,得出其隐含在字面信息之下的信息。在阅读时,我们要做到在语篇的表面意义与隐含意义、已知信息与未知信息间架起桥梁,透过字里行间,去体会作者的“弦外之音”。议论文:从标题、中心论点入手。Task 2文本微观剖析:细节探究Read the text on Pages 52 carefully and then choose the best answer.1.Why did the two brothers make a bet A.They wanted to make fun of Henry.B.They wanted to rob Henry of some money.C.They wanted to prove a fact through Henry.D.They wanted to make Henry their son in law.√2.What did Henry come to London for A.He was eager to run a small company here.B.He wanted to make friends with the two brothers.C.He desired to seek for a good job.D.He came here by accident without any plans.√3.What did Henry want from the two brothers A.A house to stay for a short time.B.A letter with a bank note in it.C.A job.D.Some delicious food.√4.How did Henry feel when he got a letter from the brothers A.Curious. Also, if governments do spend money on art, what artworks should they buy and for what purpose Most governments purchase well-known artworks for public galleries, such as the Metropolitan in New York, the National Gallery in London, the Louvre in Paris and the Uffizi in Florence, which are all free to the public. Most people do not object to public money being spent on keeping great artworks available to the public eye. However, there are some types the public are often not so happy about supporting. In the 1980s when most people seemed to have lost interest in art, the Turner Prize was started in order to regain the public's attention again. This is a contemporary art award supported by taxpayers. In 1999, the Turner Prize came under great public criticism when Tracey Emin was shortlisted for the prize for her work called “My Bed”. “My Bed” was her actual bed which she had lain in for days following a relationship breakup. To some, this was a breakthrough and some visitors even jumped into the bed and rolled around. To others, it was simply a dive into the depths of human depravity (堕落).But is the kind of “work” done by Emin “art”? And should the public pay for it, especially when it is so controversial (有争议的)?Western art is certainly at a crossroads. Does it keep exploring the dark side or does it seek an ideal beauty Perhaps the answer depends on the public at large and the values they hold. Many people were pleased when Richard Wright won the Turner Prize in 2009 with his fresco (壁画). I spotted a man with a backpack and his thumb out.“I'm going back to London. Which way are you heading?” I asked. “Ah, that would be grand,” came his immediate reply. He got on my car. “I'm Brendan.” he said, “I was getting a bit desperate. Nobody seems to stop these days.”As we headed east, Brendan told me how the two recent family tragedies had devastated him and pushed him out of his old life and on to the road. “But,” he said, “I don't feel sorry for myself. I'll always know what it feels like to be truly loved.”Brendan laughed a lot and enjoyed his old lifestyle, until last week, when he'd been robbed. “These three young people took my other backpack and it had all my money and paperwork in it. I haven't eaten for days. I'm hoping to get some casual work in London, so I can then get myself home to Ireland.”It must have been the idea of going home that got me, “Why don't I just drop you at the airport now?” I said, “I'll buy you a ticket and you can fly home. And how much is the ticket?”“It's £192,” he said. “Well, I'll get you £200.” “Grand.” he replied, without a blink. Then, after a pause, he said, “Please don't worry. I'll definitely wire you the money when I get home.” In that moment, I honestly believed he would. After getting home, I told my wife the whole tale. £200 made her gasp (叹气). Feeling surprised at my trusting, she laughed and said, “Well, I hope Brendan gets home.” That was eight weeks ago and you won't be surprised to hear that I've heard nothing.I now feel happier thinking about Brendan. He asked for help, and in good faith I gave it to him. That's got to be a good thing. Isn't that the whole point of unselfishness It is an act to help someone else at some cost to oneself. It wasn't a loan: I gave the money to Brendan. The cost to myself was £200. He started his career as the creator of Family Guy and then rose to fame from there.Seth isn't just the creator of Family Guy and American Dad. He produces these shows and also provides voice-over talent, and both of these shows have now become critical hits. Showing off his talents in these shows really paid off when he made the transition to the big screen. He then starred in movies like Ted (2012), Ted 2 (2015), and A Million Ways To Die In The West (2014). He is currently starring in the Hit Sci-Fi Comedy Show “The Orville”.In these past years, Seth MacFarlane has proved one thing—There is nothing in this world that he can't do. He is a modern-day Renaissance man. Seth has made his mark on Hollywood with his unique talents and humor. Is there anything that Seth MacFarlane can't do Here are some of the facts that you don't know about the veteran producer.Seth MacFarlane narrowly escaped death during 9/11, seems almost unreal, right He was supposed to be in one of the two flights that were hijacked and collided with the twin towers on September 11,2009. Since he was hung over, he was given the wrong departure time.Later, he arrived at the airport 10 minutes late and missed his flight. After missing the plane he went to the passenger lounge to rest, upon waking up he witnessed the horrifying news about the massacre of 9/11. When both planes crashed into the World Trade Center, the airline announced which planes were involved in this horrid event. MacFarlane then realized that he was supposed to be in the second plane.Family Guy and American Dad isn't Seth MacFarlane's first rodeo with animation. He showed a unique kind of love and passion for animation from a very young age.He actually submitted one of his drawings to a local newspaper. He was so talented that the newspaper company was impressed by his skills. The company hired him and he used to draw for them once a week for $5.Seth MacFarlane currently stars in The Orville, a comedy sci-fi series that he himself wrote and created. He stars as the captain of the infamous space ship whereas his ex-wife in the show is the first officer. She took voice, piano, and ballet classes, and dance became her favourite activity. She won a scholarship to George Balanchine's School of American Ballet in New York City and studied there for three years. In 1952 Rivera auditioned for (面试) the touring company of Call Me Madam, was hired, and spent 10 months on the road. Returning to New York, she replaced a principal dancer in Guys and Dolls on Broadway and then joined the chorus (歌舞队) of Can-Can.In 1954 Rivera left chorus work and performed Off-Broadway in Shoestring Revue. Roles in Seventh Heaven (1955) and Mr. Wonderful (1956) followed, and then Rivera landed the part of Anita in West Side Story, for which she received her first Tony Award nomination.Rivera finally won a Tony, for her performance as Anna in The Rink (1984). One critic said that she commanded the audience like “a lion tamer with a whip snap in her walk”. In 1985 she was back on Broadway in Jerry's Girls. The following year Rivera suffered a broken leg in an automobile accident, and it was feared that she would never walk again. After many months of recovery, she eased her way back into show business by performing on cruise ships. In 1993 she returned to Broadway, portraying the film goddess Aurora in Kiss of the Spider Woman. Her energetic performance earned Rivera her second Tony Award. She received additional Tony nominations for a 2003 revival of Nine and for the autobiographical Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life (2005). Parrots have been known to do it. And now rats have been observed moving their heads in time with the tunes of Mozart, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson and others, according to a new paper from the University of Tokyo. What's more, the rats seems to respond (回应) to the same beats that get humans' feet tapping (轻踩).The researchers played a sonata by Mozart for lab rats at different changes of the original speed: 75%, 100%, 200% and 400%. Wireless sensors (感应器) on the rats' bodies tracked their movements. Meanwhile, 20 people took part in it and listened to the same music through motion sensor- equipped headphones. It was observed that the rats' head movements were the most obvious when the music played at its normal speed, which was around 132 bpm (beats per minute). The same was true for the people taking part in it.The researchers then changed to some pop songs such as Lady Gaga's “Bora This Way” and Michael Jackson's “Beat It”. As with Mozart's, rats moved their heads along the rhythm (节奏) of pop songs, similar to how people do, at about 120 to 140 bpm.The study showed that both rats and humans moved their heads along to the beat in a similar rhythm. The level of head moving from both humans and rats decreased as the music sped up. The study suggests that there is something similar about the way human and rat brains respond to rhythm, but rats do not match their motions to the beat like humans do. Humans can tell the timing of a beat in advance and move predictably to it.Aniruddh Patel, a psychologist who studies brain response to music, says humans and parrots respond to beats with big, voluntary movements such as head shaking, dancing or foot tapping. Patel also stresses that this study does not show that rats have the same emotional associations with music as humans do. Yet he believes it could help show how humans and some other animals developed a sense of rhythm.【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了老鼠能对人类音乐做出反应。28.What does the study focus on?( )A.How music influences rats' brains.B.Whether rats can respond to human music.C.Which types of music are attractive to rats.D.Why rats respond to music like human do.答案:B解析:推理判断题。根据文章第一段“And now rats have been observed moving their heads in time with the tunes of Mozart, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson and others, according to a new paper from the University of Tokyo. Psychologists focused almost only on what went on between our ears. The body was not their responsibility. That was the work of medical doctors and gym instructors.Recently, however, there has been a growing realisation within psychology circles that the body and mind are deeply related to each other, far more than anyone ever imagined. The most recent insights have revealed that our mental health is determined to a large extent by our physical condition. When you are feeling poorly, you can combat it by taking better care of your body. Physical exercise helps to relieve depression. A healthy sleeping pattern also offers protection against all kinds of psychological disorders, and a healthy diet is known to reduce stress.Moments of rest and relaxation ought to occupy a more prominent place in our lives. These significant moments should not be regarded as a kind of “waste of time” in between jobs but as a natural and fundamental part of our way of life. Rest is actually crucial to our wellbeing and is good for both body and mind. We all need at least a little time to think, to reflect on life and even just to be bored. At school, the key should not only be that you have to do your very best every day, but also that you can only perform at your peak when you are adequately rested. It is only when we fully embrace rest that we will be able to take a stand against stress and burnout.Your free time is meant for relaxation and recovery. Active free time is spent on things like hobbies, sport, friends and family. The other one is passive free time: reading, watching TV, resting. Ideally you get to enjoy both—one to divert your attention from work and the other to regroup and recover.【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了应对压力的一个基本解决方案——花时间休息。32.What do psychologists focus on recently?( )A.Ways to define psychology.B.Strategies to handle mental condition.C.Responsibilities for health.D.The relation between body and mind.答案:D解析:细节理解题。根据第二段“Recently, however, there has been a growing realisation within psychology circles that the body and mind are deeply related to each other, far more than anyone ever imagined. She nervously gathered her books, preparing to reach another classroom for the next new class.Lily followed the other kids and rushed into the hallway. Others walkedin groups, chatted, and laughed, using the break to socialize. Lily, instead, walked alone along the wall of the hallway, with her head down. She was a shy girl, afraid to speak in front of other kids, and didn't think others would like her.Lily finally sat in Mr. Johnson's Language Arts class nervously. “Welcome to Language Arts,” said Mr. Johnson. He told jokes as he talked about English. Lily forgot to daydream and laughed along with the rest of the class. “We'll have some fun with language,” he said. “Just wait and see.”Fun was far beyond what Lily desired. She just wanted to be like other kids—running with friends in the hallway, laughing and joking between classes. Reminded of her pimply (长粉刺的) face, she felt hopeless and disappointed.“Take out a piece of paper,” the teacher continued, when pointing at words on the blackboard. “Write for the next thirty minutes on this topic.” Lily began writing crazily as idea after idea fought for recognition in her head. The final result was a short story about a beautiful beach house. As she wrote, she could smell the salty air, hear the crashing waves and feel the pull of the sand beneath her feet. For just a moment, she forgot where she was. She was lost in the story.“OK, pass your papers forward,” said the teacher. “Let's see what we have.” For the rest of the class time, the teacher read each individual work aloud. Lily originally thought it would be awkward. However, she was gradually attracted by the excitement in the teacher's voice. “He's actually enjoying this,” she thought. When the class would be soon over, there were still fifteen students' papers not read, including Lily's paper. Then, Mr. Johnson announced his decision, asking these students to read their work themselves in front of the class next class.注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。参考范文:A week later, the bell rang and the Language Arts class began again. Lily was nervous with her head down. After other students finished reading the papers one by one, finally, it was Lily's turn. Frozen with fear, Lily stood in front of the class, with her hands holding her paper, shaking. Seeing it, Mr. Johnson told a funny joke, which made all laugh. Feeling more relaxed, Lily began reading. She was so focused that she felt she was alone. She didn't notice that her story soon attracted all her classmates who sat up straight, without any chatting. They were lost in her fantastic story. After Lily finished her reading, the clapping from her classmates continued for a long time. Lily was shocked. When she raised her head, she found everyone staring at her excitedly. Lily finally smiled. She found everyone in the class responded to her story positively. After that class, Lily slowly lifted her head while walking. Later, she kept writing. And she began speaking in front of people and enjoyed it. A braver and more confident girl appeared. And she was grateful to Mr. Johnson who believed in every student. 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源列表 Section Ⅰ Listening and Speaking.pptx Section Ⅱ Reading and Thinking.pptx Section Ⅲ Discovering Useful Structures——情态动词和过去将来时.pptx Section Ⅳ Reading for Writing.pptx Section Ⅴ Writing——剧本写作.pptx 单元素养评价(五).pptx 模块过关检测.pptx
