I 阅读理解
Our school holds monthly earthquake drills to prepare students for emergencies. At first, many of us thought these drills were a waste of time—we had to stop our lessons, crouch under desks, and then line up to evacuate to the playground, all while keeping quiet. We often rushed through the steps just to get back to class quickly.
Last Friday, however, a real (though mild) earthquake hit our city during math class. The desks shook slightly, and the books on the shelf fell to the floor. For a second, everyone froze. But our teacher, Ms. Li, shouted calmly: “Drill steps! Now!”
We immediately crouched under our desks, covering our heads with our arms. After 30 seconds (as we’d practiced), Ms. Li led us to the hallway. We walked quickly but didn’t run, keeping a safe distance from the walls (which might fall or crack). When we reached the playground, we lined up by class. A few students looked nervous, but most felt calm—we knew exactly what to do.
Later, we learned the earthquake was only 3.2 on the Richter scale, so no one was hurt. But this experience changed our minds about the drills. What seemed boring before turned out to be life-saving practice. We now take every drill seriously, knowing that being prepared can make all the difference in an emergency.
What was the students’ initial attitude towards the earthquake drills
They believed the drills were necessary. B. They thought the drills were a waste of time.
C. They felt excited about the drills. D. They were afraid to take part in the drills.
What did the students do first when the earthquake happened
They ran directly to the playground.
B. They picked up the fallen books from the floor.
C. They crouched under desks and covered their heads.
D. They lined up in the classroom waiting for instructions.
The word “evacuate” in Paragraph 1 most probably means “______”.
leave a dangerous area safely B. return to a comfortable room
C. start a training activity D. wait for help in place
Why did most students stay calm during the real earthquake
Because the earthquake was not strong at all.
Because they had practiced the emergency steps many times.
Because Ms. Li promised there would be no danger.
Because they knew the earthquake would end soon.
What is the writer’s main purpose of writing this passage
To share a scary experience of a strong earthquake.
To explain how to measure the strength of an earthquake.
To show that emergency drills are important for staying safe.
D. To introduce the rules of behaving in a math class.
