John looked at his watch. “ I can’t believe it. We are on time. You’re really great, Joan! ”

【语法】
（1）过去进行时
在过去的某个时候正在发生的事情，或持续发生的事情，动词用过去进行时
结构：was / were + 动词ing
e.g.
现在进行时：
—What are you doing —I am drying the floor.
过去进行时：
—What were you doing at ten o’clock this morning
—I was having an art class.
am, is过去式为was；are过去式为were
（2）in + 一段时间：在这段时间之后
e.g.
The film starts in ten minutes. I will get home in 15 minutes.
（3）开始做某事：start to + 动词原形 / start + 动词ing
e.g.
It started to rain.
I started to understand the world after I started learning science.
Let’s start cooking.
（4）到达：get to和arrive
get to + 地方
e.g.
I got to the train station in time and got on the train.
arrive at + 小地方 / arrive in + 大地方
e.g.
I arrive at the park early.
The train arrive at the station at 8 o’clock.
I will arrive in Guangzhou at noon.
（5）turn：转变方向
往左转：turn left 往右转：turn right
e.g.
Turn left and go straight ahead for about 100 metres and you will see the bank.
Walk down the street and turn right at the third crossing.

（6）through：通过；穿过
某人穿过某地方：这个被穿过的地方，好像把这个人包裹了起来，才能用through
e.g.
I crossed the road at the safety crossing.

The cat came in through the window.
（7）on time和in time
on time：准时
e.g.
The train arrived at the station on time.
in time：及时

（8）do的过去式did
do可以做实义动词，表示一个实际的意思：做事情
e.g.
I am doing the long jump.
I usually do my homework on Saturday.
如果事情是在过去的时间发生或做的，那么动词要用一般过去式
e.g.
I did the homework this morning, so now I have no homework to do.
do也可以当助动词，本身没有词义，帮助别人变成否定句、疑问句
e.g.
How do you go to school
I like the restaurant. I do not like the restaurant.
如果事情是在过去的时间发生或做的，那么助动词do要变成did，被帮助的动词不需要变，保持原形
e.g.
I went to school by car this morning. How did you go to school
I took a walk with my mum yesterday.
I did not take a walk with my mum yesterday.
