My First Marathon(马拉松)
  A month before my first marathon, one of my
ankles was injured and this meant not running for
two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet, I
was determined to go ahead.
  I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P. E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn’t do either well. He later informed me that I was “not athletic”.
  The idea that I was “not athletic” stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills!
  The night before my marathon, I dreamt that I couldn’t even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.
  Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces (鞋带)became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted!
  At mile 3, I passed a sign: “GO FOR IT, RUNNERS! ”
  By mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
  By mile 21, I was starving!
  As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a. m. or questioned my expenses on running.
  I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.
  Determined to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels(世俗标签), I can now call myself a “marathon winner”.

Ⅰ. 附加疑问句的定义和组成类型

(1)定义: 附加疑问句, 又称反意疑问句, 主要用于口语, 其作用是说话人向对方验证自己的陈述或者判断, 也可用于祈使句表示请求或者建议。
(2)组成类型: ①肯定式陈述部分+否定附加疑问部分 ②否定式陈述部分+肯定附加疑问部分 ③含有否定词的陈述部分+肯定附加疑问部分 ④祈使句+附加疑问部分
Ⅱ. 附加疑问句的回答

【点拨迷津】
(1)对反意疑问句进行回答, 无论问题的提法如何, 如果事实是肯定的, 就用yes, 事实是否定的, 就要用no。
(2)要特别注意陈述句部分是否定结构, 反意疑问句部分用肯定式提问时, 回答yes或no与汉语正好相反。这种省略回答的yes要译成“不”, no要译成“是”。
Ⅲ. 附加疑问句的读法

(1)陈述部分一般用降调, 而附加部分既可用升调也可用降调, 但含义有所不同。
(2)通常情况下, 用升调时, 多表示疑问或请求; 用降调时, 多表示求证或希望对方同意。

(1)当陈述句的主语是everyone, everybody, someone, somebody时, 简短问句中的主语通常用they。如果陈述句的主语是everything, something, anything, 则简短问句中的主语通常用it。
(2)当陈述句是表示存在的句子时, 简短问句用there。
(3)如果陈述句中包含如下的否定或半否定词, 如seldom, hardly, never, rarely, little, few, nowhere, nothing, 则简短问句通常用肯定形式。
(4)陈述句中用I am时, 简短问句则用aren’t I。
(5)陈述句中是非限定人称代词one时, 正式文体中, 简短问句的主语为one, 而非正式文体中用you。
(6)如果陈述句的谓语动词是have (当 “拥有”讲时), 简短问句可用have形式或用do形式。
(7)陈述句中的动词是used to do时, 简短问句可用used 的形式或did的形式。
常温故·勤总结
附加疑问句类型有四种, “前肯后否”“前否后肯”各占一;
含有“否定词”的是一种, 带有“祈使句”的列其中。
附加疑问句很重要, 大家千万要记清。

  Paul and I were on our school basketball team. We loved basketball and were both huge fans of the NBA. My favourite player was LeBron James. Paul’s favourite player was Tyrone Bogues, a guy who played for the Charlotte Hornets, although we actually agree that they are both champions.
  Bogues was only 1. 6 metres tall, which made him the shortest player ever in the NBA. Guess what Paul was only 1. 6 metres tall, too! Paul knew that being shorter than other players meant that he had to practise more. During all those hours of doing jump shots on his own, he used Bogues as his inspiration. Paul once said, “If Bogues could make it, why not me ”

(3)如果陈述句中包含如下的否定或半否定词, 如seldom, hardly, never, rarely, little, few, nowhere, nothing, 则简短问句通常用肯定形式。
(4)陈述句中用I am时, 简短问句则用aren’t I。

My First Marathon(马拉松)
  A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet, I was determined to go ahead.
  I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P. E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn’t do either well. He later informed me that I was “not athletic”.
  The idea that I was “not athletic” stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills!
  The night before my marathon, I dreamt that I couldn’t even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.
  Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces (鞋带)became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted!
  At mile 3, I passed a sign: “GO FOR IT, RUNNERS! ”
  By mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
  By mile 21, I was starving!
  As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a. m. or questioned my expenses on running.
  I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.
