真题解析—2024
David Attenborough is a well-known English broadcaster and natural historian. He has made over 40 documentaries over the past years. At the age of 94, he made one of his best documentaries—A Life on Our Planet. It describes everything he has seen and experienced in his life.
Looking back, Attenborough says what strikes (震撼) him most is that wild animals are becoming harder to find. The documentary shows how the world ecosystem is being destroyed (破坏) by humans, whether it’s the hunting of gorillas and whales or mass destruction of rainforests. All of these can lead to another mass extinction (大灭绝). As Attenborough says, “In the natural world, no one can stand alone.”
At the end of his film, Attenborough falls silent in front of the camera. Attenborough is very nervous because he is thinking about the possible mass extinction. As I watched it, I felt like I was carrying the weight of the story on my shoulders.
But the documentary doesn’t end there. Attenborough continues to give people hope. He says there are a lot of things we can do to help our planet.
This is a documentary for everyone on the earth because we are all part of it. Now we need to take action to make our planet “wild” again!

A siren (警报器) sounds at 7:00 p.m. every evening in a village in India, announcing that it is time for everyone to turn off screen devices, like televisions and smart phones. At 8:30 p.m., a second siren sounds, informing the 3,000 villagers that screen-free time is over. What do you think Should you set limits on screen time
Here are two opposing views.
二、提高题—第一组
Some people think that screen time should be limited. Smart phones, computers and TV can be addictive and some people need help to stay away from them. Limits on screen time help people spend more time connecting with their family and friends in the real world. It’s also a great chance for people to go outside and be active, which is good for their health. Too much screen time can lead to many problems, such as not sleeping properly and a lack of creativity.
二、提高题—第一组
Others think that people can manage their screen time. Through smart phones and computers, people can find answers to many questions. They can enjoy great works of art and music, and know what is happening around the world. It’s a great source of information and ideas. What’s more, smart phones allow family and friends far away from each other to stay in touch. Limiting it might make people feel lonely. Those facts show that screen time is important, so it should not be limited. People should be free to judge for themselves how much screen time they should have.

Knit Wits is made up of a group of grandmothers with a strong love for knitting, who turn their love for crafting into a purposeful attempt. Meeting regularly, they pour their collective love into every stitch (针法) they make. The group has been working for over ten years, meeting every Friday, to support organizations that help others locally and around the world. Over the years, they’ve crafted thousands of items in support of important things.
三、拔尖题
Recently the member of Knit Wits, Mary Ann Stover, was encouraged to have the group knit hats for infant (婴儿) patients with heart disease at Children’s Health Hospital. The hats, each a unique work of art, designed with holiday themes, show the excellent skills of Knit Wits. More importantly, the specificity of Knit Wits is its understanding of the emotional effect these small objects can have on the infants experiencing medical treatments.

Bealle, a certified child life specialist at Children’s Health Hospital, explained how the hats are making a difference to the tiny patients and their families. “Caregivers are able to wear the hats on their bodies to move their smells before placing the hats back on the infants, encouraging connecting and making the infants less stressful,” he said.
Throughout the infants’ admission, many holidays are celebrated. At times, some infants are seriously ill and unable to dress up for holiday photos the families have planned. Thanks to the donations from Knit Wits, the hospital team is able to provide the family with a suitable themed infant hat which the family can use for their photos and holiday celebrations.
