The first marathon of the modern Olympic Games took place in 1896. Now, marathon is a popular sport across China. On April 26th, more than 300,000 runners took part in the 26th marathon events nationwide.
一、基础题—第一组
Teenagers have also taken part in marathons actively. Xu Qian, a 15-year-old boy from Suqian, Jiangsu Province, loves running. He took first place in the 5-kilometer Happy Run of the Jingdong Suqian Marathon on April 2nd. For Xu, the race meant months of training and preparation. He ran about 30 to 40 kilometers each week before the marathon. “The 800-meter run at school is more about speed while a marathon tests a runner’s endurance and psychological quality (心理素质)”, he said. When he felt tired during the race, he told himself to fight on.
一、基础题—第一组
As well as one’s fighting spirit, kindness from the people also plays a part in helping runners get to the finish line. Li Zhouzi from Shanxi Province took part in the 3-kilometer Kid Run of the Berlin Marathon in Germany in 2019 when she was 10 years old. The support from the people cheering along the course (跑道) really encouraged her. “When things were hard, they cheered me on. The simple words ‘keep it up’ meant a lot to me and I was encouraged to keep going to the end,” Li said.

How can we stop climate change How can we stop air pollution How can we live on a green planet One way is to use clean energy. Clean energy does not harm the earth. It never runs out. For example, energy from the sun is clean and we just need to learn how to get and store more of it.
Plants use energy from the sun to turn water and air into sugar. The sugar can be used as food. Scientists know a lot about how plants produce sugar. Some scientists want to get energy from the sun like plants do. They want to make a machine that can use sunlight to make fuel from water.
二、提高题—第一组
Water is made up of two different parts. It’s hard to break water into the two parts. Plants do it all the time, though. It is part of how they produce sugar. With the energy from the sun, the new machine will break water into two parts. One of the parts will be used as fuel. Then the fuel will be used to generate electricity. And the electricity can power cars, houses, and so on. This kind of fuel is better for the earth than gasoline is because it does not pollute the air.

The dog days, also called sanfutian in Chinese, refer to the hottest and most humid (潮湿的) days of the year. This hottest period can be different from year to year. It starts in July and lasts for about 30 to 40 days. It has three stages: chufu, zhongfu and mofu. Zhongfu is usually the hottest of the three.
Because of the high temperatures, people may feel uncomfortable and have a poor appetite. Some even get sick from eating too many cold foods.

To stay healthy, it is important to choose the proper foods during the dog days. Foods which are easy to digest and full of protein are good choices, such as various vegetables, chicken, eggs and peanuts. It’s better not to eat uncooked, cold or spicy foods. Besides choosing the proper foods, the taste of a dish is also important. Sour taste can improve the appetite and bitter taste makes people feel refreshed.

Recently, the robot Mobile Aloha made by scientists at Stanford University in the U.S. became popular online. In the videos posted, we can see the robot preparing dishes. It’s also good at watering plants, petting cats, cleaning the floor and washing clothes.
Sounds good Well, another video posted by researchers may disappoint some people. Mobile Aloha isn’t good at doing housework on its own. Instead, it learns from human actions before doing each kind of housework. When the situation changes, it can’t work well without a human being “teaching” it. So it may break dishes, bump into (撞上) things and even burn a pot.
三、拔尖题
“The robot can successfully move chairs 80 percent of the time,” said the team after they did more research on it. “For cooking dishes, it’s only 40 percent.” In short, it’s far from perfect.
In fact, AI robots are good at tasks such as doing math problems and playing chess, but they face challenges when it comes to simpler actions like cleaning. And it’s the same for Mobile Aloha. For example, if its body doesn’t move correctly—even just with a small mistake, its arms may move too far to pick up a glass. “Robots are not ready to take over the world,” the team posted online.
