A.had to B.used to C.has been D.would like be
had to不得不;used to过去常常;has been已经;would like be错误表达。根据“But now he rides a bike because riding bikes is greener.”
2.—There is only ________ food in the kitchen.

A.used B.use to C.is used to D.used to

5.—My sister and I will go to Shanghai for a trip tomorrow.
—Really _______.
A.That’s very strange B.That’s too bad C.I don’t think so D.Have a nice trip

Have you dreamt of taking a flying taxi to the airport, or jumping over crowded city streets at rush hour, getting where you want to go far faster than you could in a car. You might be able to do these things in an air taxi sooner than you think.
An air taxi is something like a helicopter (直升机) that can carry people from place to place. Air taxis don’t need a long runway like planes do. 1
In June, the government of America agreed to allow a company called Joby Aviation to start testing their new air taxi. This is the first time they have tested a taxi that has been built in a factory. Before that, all their taxis were made by hand.
2 It created a program to fly people from their homes to the airport. Joby also expects their air taxis to provide a ride-sharing service. Just like you might order a car to pick you up, you could use an app to order an air taxi. Joby’s air taxis will be flown by a pilot, and can carry four other passengers.
3 The company expects to charge about $3 a mile at first. But over time, they hope to bring the price down to less than $1 a mile. 4 They think air taxis may be quieter than helicopters, but they will still add noise and traffic to our skies.
It seems that air taxis will be part of the future of travel. 5 Governments need to make rules about where, when, and how these taxis can fly.
A.They can go straight up and down.
B.Some people have worries about air taxis.
C.The company hopes air taxis can start carrying passengers (乘客).
D.You will be able to order an air taxi on your smartphone.
E.But there’s still a lot to do before air taxis become popular.
F.Joby says their air taxis are cheaper than helicopters.
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.F 4.B 5.E

1.根据“Air taxis don’t need a long runway like planes do.” 故选A。
2.根据“It created a program to fly people from their homes to the airport.”以及“Just like you might order a car to pick you up, you could use an app to order an air taxi.”
3.根据“The company expects to charge about $3 a mile at first.”
4.根据“They think air taxis may be quieter than helicopters, but they will still add noise and traffic to our skies.”
5.根据“Governments need to make rules about where, when, and how these taxis can fly.”

But landlines only worked at home. What did people do when they were outside and needed to call someone They looked for a pay phone! Then, most people had their own mobile phones and many homes no longer had landlines. ②

Transportation Changes: Past and Present
Part 1: Read and Explore
Transportation is an important part of people's daily life. It helps us travel from one place to another easily. Over the past few decades, China has witnessed great changes in transportation.
In the past, transportation was quite simple and slow. Most people traveled on foot or by bicycle for short trips. For long-distance travel, they usually took trains or buses. However, the trains were not fast at that time. A trip from Beijing to Shanghai might take more than 20 hours. Bicycles were very popular because they were cheap and easy to park. But they also had shortcomings—people couldn't ride them in bad weather, and they got tired easily after long rides.
Now, transportation has become much more convenient and fast. We have many kinds of transport tools to choose from. High-speed trains are a great pride of China. The high-speed train from Beijing to Shanghai only takes about 4.5 hours! Many families have their own cars, so they can travel freely on weekends. Besides, subways are widely used in big cities. They can avoid traffic jams and take people to their destinations quickly. We also have planes that can take us to different countries in a short time.
But the development of transportation also brings some problems. More cars mean more air pollution. Traffic jams often happen during rush hours. To solve these problems, our government has taken some actions, such as developing electric cars, building more subway lines and encouraging people to take public transport.

Yaojiapo Village is in Tai’an, Shandong, and it is also called the “qiuku village”. As the temperatures drop, many people put on qiuku, known as long johns in English, to fight against the cold, and the village becomes busy producing (生产) long johns.
The village has been making long johns for more than 40 years. About half of homes in the village do the business (生意) for a living. It provides jobs for over 1,700 people in the village and its neighboring areas. Every morning, the villagers go to the market to collect materials they need and take them home. Each house acts as a small workshop, turning the materials into thermal (保暖的) clothing, pants and underwear. Then they are sold around China and even to countries in Africa.
“We can make a pair of long johns in just three minutes, producing 1,300 to 1,400 pairs a day,” said Zhang Feng, a 40-year-old villager whose family has been in the business for 35 years. “The busy season for selling are from August to the Chinese Lunar New Year,” he added. When Zhang was a child, his parents could only make around 20 pairs a day. At that time, they used scissors and an old-style sewing (缝纫) machine to make long johns. Now, with automated (自动化的) sewing machines, people can work much faster than before.
Another villager, Shi Hui, has also introduced better machines to help save water and protect the environment. The village is also planning to build a large industrial (工业的) park. In the future, people will see a more modern “qiuku village”.

根据“Driverless taxis can run on roads in Wuhan, Chongqing, Shenzhen and so on.”

后面;among在……

根据“It could also help…unskilled driving, overtaking, drunk driving and so on”可知,自动驾驶汽车能减少人为失误,从而“避免”一些危险驾驶行为,故选B。
根据“If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can’t react as fast as a human driver could”可知,下文列举了自动驾驶汽车的不足,说明它不“完美”,故选C。
Anyway无论如何;Also此外;However然而;Otherwise否则。根据前一句“If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can’t react as fast as a human driver could”可知,此处是另一个自动驾驶汽车的缺点,用“Also”表示补充说明,故选B。
Hometown Changes: Past and Present
Part 1: Read and Explore
Almost everyone has witnessed changes in their hometown. With the development of society, our hometowns have become more beautiful and convenient. Let's take Li Ming's hometown as an example to see the great changes.
Thirty years ago, Li Ming's hometown was a small village. Most houses were low and small, made of mud and bricks. There were only a few narrow dirt roads. When it rained, the roads became muddy and hard to walk on. There were no supermarkets or shopping malls—people bought daily necessities from small local shops. Children usually played games like hide-and-seek or flew kites in the fields because there were no parks or entertainment centers. The school was also simple, with only a few classrooms and old desks.
Now, Li Ming's hometown has turned into a lively town. Many high-rise buildings have been built, and most families live in comfortable apartments. The narrow dirt roads have been replaced by wide and clean asphalt roads. There are several large supermarkets, shopping malls and a big cinema. People can buy all kinds of things easily and watch the latest movies in their free time. A beautiful park has been built by the river, where people can walk, exercise or have picnics. The school has been rebuilt too—it has modern classrooms, a big library and a sports field. What's more, the Internet is popular in every family. People can shop online, talk with friends far away and learn new things through the Internet.
However, some problems also appear with the changes. The number of cars has increased a lot, which brings more air pollution. Some old traditions of the hometown are gradually forgotten by young people. To solve these problems, the local government has planted more trees to improve the environment and organized traditional culture activities regularly to help young people know more about hometown traditions.

But in the old days it was a poor little town. Many people had no work. They lived a hard life. There was no tall building and the only street was narrow (狭窄的). But trees and flowers made the town beautiful. Just outside the town, there was a river. You could see different kinds of fish swimming in the clear water. People there lived a simple life.
Since the government took a new policy (政策), great changes have taken place there. The streets have been widened. Schools, cinemas and theatres have been built one after another. Shanghai's Development: Past and Present
Part 1: Read and Explore
Shanghai, known as "the Pearl of the Orient", is one of the most dynamic cities in China. Over the past 40 years, it has experienced amazing changes that have turned it into a world-famous international metropolis. Let's look back at its journey of development.
In the 1980s, Shanghai was quite different from what it is now. At that time, the Bund was already a famous landmark with old western-style buildings, but most residential areas were made up of shikumen (stone-gate) houses. These houses were small and crowded, with several families sharing a kitchen and bathroom. Traffic was not convenient either—bicycles were the most popular means of transportation, and there were only a few bus routes. The subway system had not been built yet. For shopping, people usually went to small local stores or state-owned department stores like No.1 Department Store. There were few high-rise buildings, and the Pudong area across the Huangpu River was mostly farmland and low houses.
Now, Shanghai has become a modern and fashionable city. The Pudong New Area has been completely transformed—skyscrapers like the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai Tower and Jin Mao Tower stand tall there, forming a spectacular skyline. The subway system has developed rapidly, with more than 20 lines covering almost every corner of the city. High-speed trains connect Shanghai with other major cities in China in a short time, and Shanghai Pudong International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. Shopping and entertainment options are endless—there are large shopping malls like Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, Xintiandi and Global Harbor. Xintiandi also well preserves shikumen houses while adding modern elements, becoming a popular tourist spot. What's more, Shanghai hosts important international events such as the China International Import Expo (CIIE) every year, showing its global influence.
However, rapid development also brings some challenges. The cost of living, including housing and education, is relatively high. Traffic jams still occur during rush hours in some areas. To deal with these issues, the government has built more affordable housing, expanded the subway network and promoted intelligent traffic management systems to ease congestion.

China's Development: Past and Present
Part 1: Read and Explore
Over the past few decades, China has made extraordinary progress in development. From a relatively backward agricultural country to a modern industrial power, China's changes have shocked the world and greatly improved people's living standards.
In the 1970s and 1980s, China's development level was relatively low. Most people lived in rural areas and made a living by farming. The agricultural production mainly relied on manual labor, and the output was not high. In cities, the number of factories was limited, and daily necessities such as cloth and grain even needed to be bought with coupons. Transportation was inconvenient—long-distance travel mostly depended on slow green trains, and many rural areas did not have paved roads. There was no Internet, and people kept in touch with distant relatives mainly by letter. The level of science and technology was also backward; few families had telephones or color TVs.
Now, China has undergone earth-shaking changes. In infrastructure, high-speed railways crisscross the country, making long-distance travel fast and comfortable. Many expressways and bridges have been built, connecting urban and rural areas closely. In science and technology, China has achieved great success in space exploration, 5G communication and high-speed rail technology. Mobile payment has become popular everywhere, making people's daily shopping more convenient without carrying cash. People's living standards have improved significantly—most families live in comfortable houses, and private cars are common. The Internet is widely used; people can study online, work remotely and communicate with others through video calls. In addition, China actively participates in international cooperation, such as the Belt and Road Initiative, helping more countries develop together.
However, rapid development also brings some challenges. Environmental pollution caused by industrial production, unbalanced development between urban and rural areas in some regions, and the pressure of an aging population are issues that need to be addressed. The Chinese government has taken a series of measures, such as promoting green energy, carrying out rural revitalization strategies, and improving the elderly care system.

Dear Alice,
Welcome to my hometown on May Day.
My hometown is a charming small city located in the south of China. During May Day, the weather is typically warm and sunny, creating an ideal atmosphere for traveling. The people here are incredibly friendly and warm-hearted, always ready to offer help to visitors.
In recent years, my hometown has undergone remarkable changes. The environment has improved significantly, with more green spaces filled with trees and flowers, making the air fresher and the scenery more pleasant. Transport has also become much more convenient. There are numerous buses covering all parts of the city, and the newly built subway system allows for fast and easy travel.
When it comes to places of interest, there’s plenty to explore. You must visit the ancient temple, which dates back hundreds of years and is a treasure trove of history and culture. As for food, you can’t miss the local delicacies. The dumplings, with their juicy fillings, and the hand-pulled noodles, which are chewy and flavorful, are must-tries. Also, the night market is a great place to be, where you can sample a wide variety of delicious snacks, from sweet desserts to savory grilled foods.
