本文的语篇类型属于记叙文(narration), 介绍了作者（Nick）从不会滑冰到加入冰球队并志在夺取全国比赛冠军的故事。
作者在文章中先给出自己对所喜爱的运动的感受，然后时间后退到三年前记述如何一步步取得进步。这种记述方式属于倒叙法。

讲述故事，就是要通过完整的情节和生动形象的语言，使读者在享受故事情节的同时，有所感、有所悟。
写作时要注意以下几点：
1. 故事属于记叙文，写作时可以按照时间的先后顺序展开，也可以采用倒叙或插叙的手法进行写作；
2. 叙述时要交代清楚故事发生的时间、地点、人物和故事的起因、经过及结果；
3. 写作时人称通常采用第一人称或第三人称，时态通常采用过去时态。

I’ve been a sports nut since I was old enough to hold a ball. That’s why when my PE teacher presented me with the idea of joining the swimming team I decided to give it a shot and challenge myself a bit more. So I started going to swimming practice last June. At first I only regarded swimming as a hobby to enhance my physical fitness.

But soon I found I fell in love with it. Then, last week, I had my first swimming competition, in the 100m breaststroke. Standing tall at the head of the lane made me feel both nervous and excited. After the sound of the whistle, I dived in and began to swim with all my strength! Finally, I came in third place. I was so happy for my achievement, and it proved that hard work pays off. I will keep on swimming, perhaps for the rest of my life. Not only because it makes me healthier and stronger, but also for the confidence and sense of achievement it has brought.
