By studying the target dialogue, students will gain a clear grasp of basic shopping procedures and commonly used expressions, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge to real-life scenarios. Meanwhile, the lesson also guides students to develop sound consumption concepts and proper shopping etiquette, thereby enhancing their social competence and interpersonal communication skills.The dialogue presents some commonly used expressions in shopping scenarios. For example, the shop assistant’s greeting “Can I help you ” and the customer’s response “Yes, please.”; the shop assistant’s sales pitch “We have a sale today ... It comes with some candles.”; the shop assistant’s question about quantity “How many / much ... do you want ”; the customer’s price inquiry “How much... ”; the customer’s payment expression “Here you are.”; and the farewell exchanges between the shop assistant and the customer at the end of the transaction, such as “Thank you! Have a nice day!” and “Thanks. Lead-in Display a calendar, a circle map and some relevant pictures to guide students in a review session. Then ask the following questions: 1) How do we celebrate birthdays 2) What can we do for someone’s birthday 3) What can we buy for a birthday party Brainstorm different ways to celebrate birthdays. Then look at the displayed calendar, circle map and themed pictures, and think about items that can be prepared for a birthday party. To help students review prior knowledge and naturally introduce the target language through brainstorming and visual cues.Step 2. Listening 1. Guide Ss to observe the picture in 2a. Ask some questions. 1) Where are they 2) Who is the woman 3) What are they doing 2. Let Ss listen to the two parts of the conversation and fill in the blanks. Look at the picture and predict what the people are doing. Listen to the recording and complete the conversation. To stimulate students’ interest in listening and cultivate their observation skills. To help students focus on the detailed information and expressions related to shopping politely.Step 3. Reading 1. Let Ss read the conversation and complete the table in 2b. Deep thinking How to be polite in a shop Read the conversation and complete the table in 2b. Work in pairs to ask and answer questions about the items, and check each other’s answers. Underline the shopping language and share in class. To help students have a better understanding of the text by finding more details. To guide students to identify polite shopping expressions and raise their communication etiquette awareness.Step 4. Speaking 1. Role-play Play the recording and ask students to repeat the conversation and imitate the correct intonation. Have students work in pairs to role-play the conversation. 2. Group work Guide students to review the vocabulary in 2d. Have students work in groups to practice role-playing shopping for items on the class birthday party shopping list. Provide them with useful expressions and clear evaluation criteria for the activity. Invite several groups to present their conversations in class. Listen to the conversation and pay attention to the proper tones. Role-play the conversation in groups of three. Put the words in the box into different groups on the shopping list in 2d.
