Kids can wear these adorable smocks, often collared (有领圈的) and embroidered (有刺绣的), over their clothes to keep them from getting dirty during the day. In addition to protecting their clothes, they are a simpler alternative (替代品) to school uniforms (which Italy doesn’t typically require).
