Some of my fondest memories with my family are from when I was in middle school, when the three of us enjoyed trips that I remember vividly to this day. But during my younger days, like 4 or 5 years old, we vacationed in places like Cancun, Jamaica and Hawaii and I can’t tell whether I actually recall those memories or whether I'm filling in the gaps through photo albums.
A frequent discussion I have with my coworkers and friends, who are also in their 20s, is how we wish our parents had taken us on more vacations when we were much older. What I suggest is to hold off on those grand vacations until your kid is about 12, when they can begin to understand what a privilege is, and you can save the international travel until they’re in high school. Of course, I do understand that sometimes, is not the kids but the parents who just want to enjoy a vacation. But in other cases, when the main goal is to create family memories, you can still accomplish that in other ways.
It wasn't until college that I realized how important travel is, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought about wanting to redo those family trips now. Especially during a time in my life when an international trip is outside of my budget, I think about how much money my parents spent on our vacations that ended up being a complete blur.
I’m not telling you to deprive(剥夺) your children of fun family memories, either. I’m simply arguing that you should travel locally or within your state. Although your little ones might not care about the destination, they will remember that you are all together and have a great time. That’s the most important things anyway.

Beneath Hawaii’s turquoise waves, a silent crisis unfolds: coral reefs, home to 25% of marine species, are bleaching at alarming rates. But across the islands, a wave of innovation is pushing back — blending ancient wisdom with cutting-edge science to protect paradise.
On Oahu’s north shore, marine biologists and local fishermen have joined forces on the Reef Tender project. Using 3D-printed coral “seeds” made from limestone and recycled oyster shells, they’re restoring damaged reefs. These seeds, shaped like tiny antlers, mimic natural coral structures, allowing baby coral polyps to attach and grow 50% faster than in the wild. What makes it unique Fishermen, who’ve guarded these waters for generations, now monitor the reefs daily, using a simple app to log growth — turning stewards into scientists.
In Maui’s rainforests, invasive species like the miconia plant once spread unchecked. Enter Aloha AirWatch, a drone program with a twist: drones equipped with thermal cameras scan the canopy, identifying invasive plants by their heat signatures. Instead of spraying chemicals, teams deploy biocontrol agents — tiny Hawaiian wasps that feed exclusively on miconia leaves. It’s a targeted approach, preserving native flora while honoring the Hawaiian principle of kāko o .
Perhaps most inspiring is the Hui o Ka Wai initiative, which revives traditional Hawaiian water management. Ancient auwai are being restored with modern sensors that track water flow, ensuring streams stay healthy for both taro farms and endangered freshwater fish. Farmers now share real-time data via a community dashboard, balancing crop needs with in a way that feels both old and new.
Hawaii’s lesson is clear: protecting nature thrives when innovation listens — to the land, the sea, and the people who call them home. Here, paradise isn’t just preserved; it’s reimagined.

Recent videos claiming that a school in Ganzhou, Jiangxi, serves pre-made meals to its students have caused heated discussions across the country. People doubt if pre-made meals, despite being convenient, are healthy and nutritious enough for growing teenagers.
Pre-made meals refer to half-finished or finished dishes that are already cooked or prepared, according to the China Cuisine Association. There are several types of pre-made foods, including ready-to-eat food, such as canned food or cooked food in packages, and ready-to-heat or ready-to-cook food, which requires heating or cooking before being served.
Many people tend to think that ready-to-heat and ready-to-cook foods are less nutritious because they usually need to be kept in freezers or refrigerators.
“Actually freezing does not cause a loss of nutrients,” Liu Junya, a 33-year-old dietitian in Beijing, told Teens. “Nutrient loss typically occurs during the heating or frying process.”
Vitamins from the B group and vitamin C found in meat and vegetables are heat-sensitive and can be lost during the process. By being heated or cooked twice or more, “pre-made foods can be less nutritious than freshly prepared and cooked foods,” Liu said.
Meanwhile, “many pre-made food companies weigh taste over nutrition,” said Liu. This leads to higher levels of salt and sugar in the food, which may lead to health problems.
Additives (添加剂) are also a major concern related to pre-made foods. In China, there are strict standards for food additives. Currently, China’s food industry has well-developed techniques to preserve pre-made foods without the overuse of additives. Some food can be sterilized (消毒) and then sealed after cooking, followed by low-temperature storage, allowing for a longer shelf life. However, it’s essential that customers buy pre-made meals from qualified food companies or supermarkets.
It is hoped that regulations (管理) on pre-made meals can be strengthened to better ensure nutrition and hygiene. “This way, pre-made meals will be more accepted by the public,” Liu said.
32.What can be learned about pre-made meals from the passage
A.They are usually costly and tasty.
B.They taste better than homemade food.
C.They are already partly or fully cooked.
D.They are high in sugar, salt and vitamins.
33.When does Liu Junya think nutrient loss typically occurs in pre-made foods
A.During cooking. B.During freezing.
C.During packaging. D.During sterilizing.
34.What does the author suggest consumers do about pre-made meals
A.Keep pre-made meals frozen. B.Check the cooking instructions.
C.Be careful of the additives used. D.Buy from reliable food suppliers.
35.What does Liu Junya think of pre-made meals
A.They are a convenient choice for all.
B.They are suitable for daily consumption.
C.They shoud be avoided for long-term health.
D.They can be more accepted if controlled properly.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Stressful situations can't be avoided in daily life. You're getting ready to meet someone for a first date. 36 Or on the worst condition, you're facing an emergency. Your hands start to shake, your heart races, and your mind floods with unfavorable thoughts.
It's common for the body's natural “fight-or-flight” response to kick in, and it may be hard to react the way you would like to when you are under stress. 37 When the next high-stress situation arises, you are better prepared.
One skill is to exercise the heart rate variability, or HRV, which is the way in which a person's heart rate (心率) goes up and down and continuously changes. Having a higher HRV is a sign that your nervous system (系统) is healthy. 38
Recognize that your reaction to stress is not abnormal (不正常的). When a person starts to feel a sense of stress, thoughts such as “I can't do this” or fight begins to happen. But when you're mindful that these reactions are normal, you can use that recognition to your advantage.
39 Experts recommend breathing in normally through the nose for four seconds and breathing out — as if you are softly blowing out a candle — for six seconds to help the body get to the best state.
Finally, it is important to remember that stress is unavoidable, especially when emergencies happen. 40 It keeps our nervous systems prepared to respond when we need to, and to go back to a state of calm, when things are OK and there's no danger in the environment.
A.A little bit of stress is good for us.
B.But you can train your mind and body.
C.You have difficulty breathing normally.
D.It is important to stay calm in an emergency.
E.You're standing up to speak in front of a big audience.
F.Remembering to breathe more slowly is also important.
G.And your heart can get better used to daily challenges and stressors.

阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或所给单词的正确形式。
It is quite reasonable to blame traffic jams, the cost of gas and the great speed of modern life, but manners on the road are becoming horrible. Everybody knows that 56 (nice) men would become fierce tigers behind the wheel. You might tolerate the odd road-hog, the rude and inconsiderate driver, but nowadays the well-mannered driver is the exception 57 the rule.
Road politeness is not only good manners, but good sense too. It takes the most cool-headed drivers great patience 58 (resist) the temptation to take revenge when 59 (subject) to uncivilized behavior. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way to 60 (relieve) the tightness of motoring. A friendly nod or a wave of thanks in response to 61 act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of good will and calm so necessary in modern traffic conditions.
However, misplaced politeness 62 also be dangerous. Typical examples are the driver who brakes violently to allow a car to emerge from a side street to following traffic, 63 a few seconds later the road would be clear anyway; or the man who waves a child across a zebra crossing into the path of oncoming vehicles 64 may be unable to stop in time.
A veteran driver told me it would help if drivers learnt to filter correctly into traffic stream one at a time without causing total blockages that give rise to bad temper. Years ago, experts warned us that explosion in car ownership 65 (demand) more give-and-take from all road users. It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart.

I had always thought of my neighborhood as a peaceful and friendly place. However, all that changed when Mr. Thompson moved in next door. He was a middle-aged man who seemed to have a rather strange lifestyle.
At first, I didn’t pay much attention to him. But one day, I noticed that his car was always parked in a way that blocked part of my driveway. It was really inconvenient, especially when I was in a hurry to go to work or pick up my kids from school. I politely asked him to be more careful with his parking, but he just gave me a cold look and said he would do so as he was pleased. This made me get cross with him.
As time went by, more problems arose. Mr. Thompson had a big dog that barked loudly day and night. I could barely have a sound sleep, and my kids were also disturbed by the noise. I tried to talk to him about the dog, but he refused to listen. He even accused me of being too sensitive.
One evening, I came home from a long-day work, extremely worn out. Just as I was about to park my car, I found that Mr. Thompson’s car was once again blocking my driveway. I was so frustrated that I knocked on his door forcefully. After seemed a long time, the door opened. There stood Mr. Thompson with an indifferent look on his face. Words were exchanged, and both of us were angry. We had a heated argument. He even slammed the door shut right in front of me. After that, we didn’t talk to each other for weeks. My once proud and friendly neighborhood ties are gone.
One day, as I was mowing the lawn(修剪草坪)in my garden, I saw Mr. Thompson struggling to carry a heavy box along his driveway.

66. Dear Chris,
How have you been lately I just want to share a fantastic farm work activity our class took part in last Friday at school—it was really unforgettable!
Under our teachers’ guidance, we planted fresh vegetable seedlings, watered the growing plants carefully, and cleared weeds around the beds. Everyone worked enthusiastically, helping each other with tasks. Though we were a bit tired after the whole morning, seeing the neat farm and the young plants standing straight made us full of joy.
This activity not only let me experience the hardship of farming but also deepened my understanding of “no pains, no gains”. It was also a great chance to get close to nature. Have you ever joined in such fun farm work
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
It seemed that he was about to drop it. I hesitated for a moment, recalling all the unpleasant experiences I had with him. A part of me felt that he deserved to struggle after how rudely he had treated me. But as I watched him wobble under the weight of the box, his face tense with effort, another part of me felt guilty for just standing there. I had always believed in kindness, yet here I was, debating whether to help a neighbor in need. Taking a deep breath, I set aside my pride and walked over. “Let me help you.” I said, reaching for the box. He looked at me, surprised, but after a brief pause, he nodded silently, and together we carried it inside.
As we were standing in his living room, Mr. Thompson broke the ice. He let out a sigh and, in a softer tone than I had ever heard from him, admitted that he hadn’t meant to be rude before. Recovering from surgery had left him frustrated and short-tempered, and he realized now how inconsiderate he had been. Hearing this, my frustration melted away. I admitted that I had judged him too quickly. As we talked, the tension between us faded, replaced by a quiet understanding. From that day on, our relationship changed—we weren’t just neighbors anymore but two people willing to give each other a second chance.
