By the end of this lesson, we will be able to:
1.infer hobbies through body language;
2.use infinitives to discuss free-time activities and hobbies with partners;
3.start a proper discussion and discuss the reason why students do their hobbies.
Play a game
A teacher writes a hobby to a student, and the student use his body language to show it out. We can guess what the hobby is.
3a. Read the conversation. Circle Peter’s and Yaming’s free-time activities.

Peter: Hey Yaming! What are you up to
Yaming: Hi Peter. I’m doing calligraphy.
Peter: It’s beautiful! What are you writing
Yaming: It’s a poem by Li Bai. My grandmother taught me how to write it.
Peter: What's this character
Yaming: It’s yue. It means “moon”.
Peter: It’s nice! I like watching you write like that. But it looks difficult.
Yaming: Well, the first step is always the hardest, When I started to do calligraphy, I spent hours practising single strokes.
Peter: I know how that feels! My dad’s teaching me to play the guitar. It’s difficult, but he always encourages me not to give up.
Yaming: Exactly. Now I do calligraphy to relax, I even like how the ink smells! Why did you choose to play the guitar
Peter: I think playing the guitar is cool. Will you teach me to write a poem I can teach you to play a song in return.

It means that when you start to do something new or difficult, the initial stage is usually the most challenging part. For example, when Yaming began to do calligraphy, practising single strokes was hard, which was the first step.

表达自己能理解对方经历某事的感受，“how that feels” 是宾语从句，作 “know” 的宾语 。

4. give up
give up意为“放弃” ，指放弃做某事，常接名词、代词或动名词（give up doing sth. ），用于表达停止尝试、不再坚持原本做的事 。
常见例句：
Don’t give up learning English. It’s useful.
不要放弃学英语。它很有用。
5.manage
manage意为“完成（困难的事）；管理” ，manage to do sth.意为“设法做成某事”
