S1: Well, I have a timetable and I do my homework at the same time every day. I also have set time for sports and exercise. For example, I run every morning on the playing field before school. It makes me feel full of energy for the rest of the day.
H: But it’s not easy to run every day, especially on cold mornings! How do you manage it
S1: I run with my friends and we encourage each other.
H: That’s great! What about you Do you run too
S2: No, I play basketball every afternoon after school. I play with my classmates. It’s a great way to relax after lessons and before we start our homework.
H: Sounds good! Sports are also a great way to meet people we don’t know and, of course, they keep us healthy and strong! Keep up the good work!
Lesson 2
Interviewer: Lee, you are on our school’s football team. When did you start playing football
Lee: I think I was about 4 or 5 years old when I started kicking a ball around. The more I practised, the better I became. At the age of 9, my parents decided I should start training.
Interviewer: How does the school football team train
Lee: We train very hard. We practise passing the ball and scoring goals. The more we train, the more we improve our skills. We also do exercises to keep fit. When a player is fit, it’s easier to run for 90 minutes during a game!
Interviewer: How do you balance your time between training and studies
Lee: In class, I focus only on my schoolwork. Training always takes place after class. I usually save some time for homework after my training.

Hello everyone! Today, I’m here to talk about emergencies. What do we need in emergencies
First, in an earthquake, it’s a good idea to have a torch. You can certainly use the torch on your phone. It will help you find your way in dark places.
If there is a fire, stay calm. Make your way to the nearest safe place and use your phone to call 119, or other numbers when you are abroad.
In a flood, use a hammer in a car or bus to break the window and get out. A life jacket is also useful to help you stay above water.
Finally, a first aid case is important in lots of situations, especially in accidents. Have you got one
Lesson 2

John: Hi, Tanya. Where were you when the thunderstorm started
Tanya: I was on the street, walking to my grandparents’ house.

John: Oh no! It was dangerous! You shouldn’t be outside in a thunderstorm.
Tanya: I know. The rain was heavy and the lightning and thunder were frightening. I felt quite scared. Where were you, John
John: I came home just before it began.
Part 2
John: So what did you do then
Tanya: Well, first, I saw a big tree and hid under it.
John: Really You should stay away from trees during a thunderstorm.
Tanya: You’re right. Well, I didn’t know it was a thunderstorm at first. Then, I heard thunder and realised it was very dangerous for me to stand under a tree. So, I ran down the street and went into a shop.
John: That was better.
Tanya: Yes. Then, I sent a text message to my grandparents and told them I was safe. How about you
John: I closed all the windows and sat far away from them.
Tanya: Well done, John! That’s what we should do in a thunderstorm.

Jenny: Not really. We usually just shout at each other.
Mark: It might be a good idea to control your anger first. Then, talk to your brother in a friendly way. I think he’ll listen to you then.

Peter: Well, my parents were talking about my grades last night.

Peter: No! They were comparing me with their friends’ children and the things they said actually did more harm than good. I feel like there’s nothing I can do to make them feel proud of me!
Mrs Evans: That’s not true. All parents want their children to succeed, and they also want them to be happy. Think about it. Why were your parents comparing you with other children
Peter: I don’t know.
Mrs Evans: Well, they probably believed they were encouraging you by comparing you with others. They didn’t know this would make you feel sad.
Peter: I see, but what can I do
Mrs Evans: Try talking to your parents about the problem and tell them how you feel.
Peter: OK, I will. Thank you, Mrs Evans.
