Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks.
One day, Ali took Zuhra's shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn't until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali's running shoes. Zahra's school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.
A long-distance race was going to be held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.
The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish line drew near, another runner collided with Ali from behind and he crashed to the ground.

Ali looked up and saw the other boys rushing ahead. A surge of despair crept over his heart, and he seemed to witness the prize fading away. Rising up in anger and disappointment, Ali finally arrived the finish line but with dozens of runners in front of him. Tears started to fill his eyes and Ali hung his head low, trying to conceal the sorrow. It was as if the whole world had collapsed and he failed the promise. The judge, however, noticed the entire progress. After checking the review, he judged the other runner breaking the rules and placed Ali to the third place he deserved. With prize in hand, Ali couldn’t believe he attained the shoes he had been dreaming for days.

Filled with delight, Ali walked home quickly. With hands folding at the back, he excitedly paced into Zahra’s room. Noticing the sweats and big grin on her face, Zahra came to realize what had happened. She stepped forward, carefully rubbed the sweats and hugged Ali with that precious shoes in her hands. “Now I can arrive school on time.” Ali said with eyes shining. The siblings exchanged a smile and they both read something that represented love and concern from other’s eyes. Though life was still full of difficulties, the love between them was eternal and invaluable.

阿里满心欢喜，快步走回家中。他背着手，兴奋地踱进扎赫拉的房间。扎赫拉注意到他脸上的汗水和灿烂笑容，顿时明白发生了什么。她上前轻轻拭去他额头的汗珠，双手捧着那双珍贵的鞋子拥抱了阿里。"现在我能准时到校了。"阿里双眼发亮地说道。兄妹相视而笑，彼此都在对方眼中读到了爱与关怀。尽管生活依然充满艰难，但他们之间的感情永恒而无价。
Ali looked up and saw the other boys rushing ahead. With desperate effort he struggled to drag himself from the ground. His knees scratched, his lungs burnt, his eyes veiled by sweats, yet Ali kept running and stretching his body ahead. “Run, Ali, run.” he murmured to himself. The innocent eyes of Zahra and his promise to her lingered in his mind and melted into his blood. The seemingly endless race eventually reached its end as he dashed to the finish line with deafening cheerings, among which he caught the one that he must have dreamt for a thousand times: “The third one!”
阿里抬起头，看到其他男孩都冲到了前面。他拼尽全力，挣扎着从地上爬起来。膝盖擦破了，肺部灼痛，汗水模糊了视线，但阿里依然坚持奔跑，奋力向前伸展身体。“跑，阿里，跑。”他喃喃自语。扎赫拉那双天真的眼睛以及他对她许下的承诺一直萦绕在他心头，融入了他的血液。这场看似永无止境的赛跑终于在他冲向终点线时结束，周围响起震耳欲聋的欢呼声，在这欢呼声中，他听到了那句他一定梦见过上千次的话：“第三名！”
Filled with delight, Ali walked home quickly. His hard work was paid off, for which he could feel a warm glow spread inside of him. “Look, Zahra!” he showed to the shoes wearing a big smile on his face. “I’ve made it!” His smile froze as he suddenly found Zahra crying, with tears swelled up in her eyes. “I’m just too overwhelmed by your devotion.” Zahra comforted him with a tight hug, her voice trembling. “You know what Your love is the best pair of shoes I’ve ever had, in which I’ll never be afraid of any challenge, any pain. I love you, my brother.

Ali looked up and saw the other boys rushing ahead. Refusing to give up at this point, he jumped to his feet and ran as fast as he could. He dashed across the finish line and won the fourth prize. Thinking he would let her sister down, Ali couldn't help sobbing. Just then he suddenly heard the announcement from the broadcast that he won the third prize as the runner who collided with Ali was disqualified for breaking the rule. Holding the shoes close to his chest during the award ceremony, Ali felt overjoyed and relieved as he eventually won the shoes for his sister.

Filled with delight, Ali walked home quickly. He could not wait to see his sister and share the thrilling news. On his arrival, Ali found Zahra was waiting outside. She was really nervous whether her brother had brought her what she was expecting. "Zahra, see what I have got for you." he took the prize out of his bag with his trembling hands. The instant Zahra saw the shoes, her face lit up. So thrilled was she that she threw herself at Ali. "Thank you! Ali." Tears of joy welled up their eyes as the brother and sister hugged tightly together.
阿里满心欢喜，一路快步走回家。他迫不及待想见到妹妹，和她分享这个令人激动的好消息。一到家，阿里就发现扎赫拉正在外面等着。她心里特别忐忑，不知道哥哥有没有给她带来她一直盼望着的东西。“扎赫拉，快看看我给你带了什么。”他用颤抖的手从包里拿出奖品。扎赫拉一看到那双鞋子，脸上顿时绽放出灿烂的笑容。她激动极了，一下子扑到阿里身上。“谢谢你！阿里。”兄妹俩紧紧相拥，喜悦的泪水在眼眶里打转。
