when的用法
1.接动作类型
可接短暂性动作(瞬间完成的动作,如land、call、go out等),也可接延续性动作(持续一段时间的动作,如sleep、write等)。
例:I was reading a book when the phone rang.(rang是短暂性动作)
2.时态搭配
主句用过去进行时( was / were + doing ),从句用一般过去时(表示短暂动作);也可主句用一般过去时,从句用一般过去时(两个动作先后发生)。
例:When I arrived home, my mother was cooking.

while的用法
1.接动作类型
只能接延续性动作(如do、sleep、rain等)且从句常用进行时态(was/were + doing)。
例:While she was singing, I was dancing.
2. 时态搭配
主从句常都用过去进行时,表示两个延续性动作同时发生;
也可主句用一般过去时,从句用过去进行时。
例:While my sister was watching TV, I finished my homework.

1. 用括号中的正确形式、when或while填空。

“读书”是延续性动作,用过去进行时was reading;“门铃”是短暂性动作,用when连接。
2. 改写句子。
She was washing clothes. The water stopped.(用when或while将两句合并为一句)
