Dear Editor,
I'm writing to tell you a discussion in our school about whether to study at home or abroad.
With the development of society, many people apply to study abroad at present. On the one hand, many people side with those studying abroad. As far as they are concerned, not only does being exposed to foreign cultures help to gain a global perspective, but also it strengthens language competence. On the other hand, there is no denying that studying abroad will cost an arm and a leg. Initially, people don't know how to behave themselves if they are not mature enough. Once feeling depressed, they will have no relatives or friends to comfort and motivate them. So they will have great difficulty making an adaptation to the unfamiliar surroundings.
As far as I know, whether to study abroad or not depends on what expectations you have of yourself.

People who hold a positive attitude believe that studying abroad is a good way for students to improve themselves. Not only will they have a better language environment to study English, but also they can learn to live independently. What's more, studying abroad can help students broaden their horizons and gain more knowledge about different cultures. However, other people have different opinions. They hold that studying abroad can cost an arm and a leg, which becomes a burden for some families. They also worry that students who study abroad may feel lonely and homesick.
As far as I'm concerned, studying abroad is not necessary. With the improvement of the educational environment in China, students can also receive education of high quality in our motherland.
