In January 2025, the Los Angeles area in California, USA, experienced severe wildfires that resulted in substantial casualties and property damage. Here are the details:
Casualties: As confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office on January 12, the death toll from the wildfires rose to 24.
Property Damage: It is estimated that approximately 12,000 homes, commercial buildings, schools, and other structures were damaged or destroyed.
Evacuations: Around 150,000 people were ordered or warned to evacuate.
Economic Losses: AccuWeather estimated that the overall economic losses could reach between $135 billion and $150 billion.

On September 6, 2024, Typhoon No. 11 "Mo Jie"made landfall in Wenchang, Hainan, and then entered the Beibu Gulf, becoming the strongest typhoon to hit China in the autumn since 1949.
Casualties: As of 12:00 on September 7, the disaster had affected 1.227 million people to varying degrees in Hainan, Guangdong, and Guangxi, resulting in 3 deaths and 95 injuries.
Economic Losses: The direct economic losses caused by Typhoon "Mo Jie" have approached 80 billion yuan, accounting for 9.4% of Hainan Province's GDP of 755.1 billion yuan last year.

In July 2021, Henan Province in China suffered from a severe flood disaster caused by extreme rainfall, resulting in significant casualties and economic losses. The specific impacts are as follows:

Economic Losses: The direct economic losses amounted to 120.06 billion yuan.

Economic Losses: The volcanic eruption caused severe damage to Tonga's infrastructure, including houses, roads, airports, and communication facilities. The estimated economic losses are in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

On July 28, 1976, at 03:42, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in Tangshan City, Hebei Province,
Casualties: A total of 240,000 people died, and 160,000 people were injured.
Economic Losses: The Tangshan earthquake and its aftershocks caused massive economic losses . The exact amount is difficult to estimate, but the impact is profound.
The 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake
On May 12, 2008, at 14:28, a magnitude 8.0 earthquake occurred in Yingxiu Town, Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province. This earthquake is the deadliest earthquake since the 20th century.
Casualties: As of June 3 of that year, the earthquake caused 69,227 deaths, 374,643 injuries, and 17,923 people missing.
Economic Losses: The direct economic losses amounted to 845.1 billion yuan.
