Instead of pens and paper, students wear VR headsets in the classroom. They are put into a virtual environment where a fire has broken out. They must find their way out and escape carefully.
At the VR medical school under Sichuan University, a virtual system allows medical students to examine human body in different ways. They can even separate organs for closer examination. Students can practice their operation skills without a real body.
Simon Leung, vice-chairman of a VR company, said the company has developed VR classrooms and computers that send students to a 360-degree digital world. Moreover, the VR headsets can tell whether children are focused on the task at hand, Leung said.
Chinese parents, however, have a different opinion on VR lessons. They are suspicious of VR because they are unsure if the technology will have any bad effects. They are worried about their children’s eyesight, too.
Besides, VR equipment comes at a price. A top VR headset and computer could cost up to 10,000 yuan (1,475 U.S. dollars). “We need to do more to lower the cost and improve the user’s experience,” said Huang Ronghuai, professor at the Smart Learning Institute under Beijing Normal University. “But we are sure that we will change the model of education in the future.”

Passage 3
Students attend a science lesson given by astronauts on board China’s Tiangong space station on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu, the members of the Shenzhou XIII, which was launched (发射) on October 16, appear on television screens watched by millions of students across China.
During the 41-minute lesson, the astronauts did four experiments to show physical phenomena(现象) only possible in a weightless environment, such as “liquid crystallization” and “a water bridge”. In one experiment, Wang used a toy of Bing Dwen Dwen, the mascot of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, to show how objects fly in Tiangong. They invited the young viewers to do similar experiments to see the differences between space and land environments.
Before closing the lesson, the astronauts answered questions from students. The questions covered the life and work in space, such as how to take care of the skin and whether hot water was available.
Wednesday’s event marked the third time Wang had taken part in a space lesson. In June 2013, she gave the nation’s first space lesson to over 60 million Chinese students in Shenzhou X. It made China the second country, following the United States, to have given a lesson to schoolchildren from space.
In early December, Wang gave the country’s second space lesson from the Tiangong station. The astronauts showed viewers how they lived and worked inside the space station.
“These science lessons can encourage students to explore the world of science and technology.” Shi Yi, a physics teacher, said after today’s activity, “Encouraged by China’s spaceflight achievements, my school has built a space science laboratory and the teachers give lessons about space exploration.”

Passage 4
Look at this robot in the picture. What do you think it is for
Scientists in China have developed the special robot to help visually impaired people (视障人士). It has six legs and can act as a “guide dog” for people who can’t see.
In China, there are over 17 million visually impaired people, but there are only about 400 real guide dogs to help them. It is very hard and expensive to train guide dogs, so most visually impaired people don’t have one.
The new robot can help solve the problem. It can do many things. For example, it can know what the person is saying and act quickly; it can avoid obstacles (障碍物) and find the right way to go. What’s more, the robot can be used as a helper in the home and call for help if needed.
To make the robot work well, the scientists gave it many senses (感觉). It can see, hear, speak and feel. In this way, the robot can know what the person wants to do and work together with him. The robot’s six legs also make it more stable (稳定的) than other robot with just four legs.
Li Fei, a visually impaired woman, tried out the robot during a test. She said that when guided her, she could walk straighter than she did on her own. The developers have already got orders for 20 of the robots. Soon they could help many visually impaired people in China.

In this article, we’ll help you form your own habit so you can keep your room, locker, and any other spaces you use neat and organized all the time.
Making ▲ Choose a day where you can sit down and plan for the week ahead. A good time to do this would be Sunday night. Passage 4
It is important to learn how to protect our environment. Here is a 5R rule for us.
Reduce: If you want to reduce the waste, you should use things wisely. A large number of trees are cut down to make paper. If everyone uses paper wastefully, soon we would not have any trees left. So it is necessary to reduce the waste.
Reuse: You should always think of reusing the able things before throwing them away. For example, we should buy reusable forks and knives instead of ones we throw away. Bring cups to the coffee shop and cloth bags to the store. Give your clothes you do not use or the ones which are too small to the poor. In a family, you may pass on such clothes to younger brothers or sisters.
Recycle: Recycling uses less energy and fewer resources (资源 ). Bottles, cans (罐子) and paper cups can be easily recycled. They can be remade into the same thing or new things.
Recover: When you buy a box of apples, there may be a few rotten (腐烂的) ones, you have two choices: one is to throw the whole apple away, or you could cut off the rotten parts and eat the good parts. In this way, you are recovering the eatable parts of food.
Repair: If one of the legs of your table is broken, you can repair it. If you want to change for better ones, it is better for you to sell the old things or give them to other people who can use them after repairing them.
Learn the rules to protect our environment. Let’s try our best to make the earth cleaner and more beautiful.

Eric, a French exchange student, went to a middle school in Shanghai to learn about Chinese culture and make new friends.
One cool autumn morning, Eric met his new roommate, Wei Ning, a Chinese student. Excited to make a good first impression (印象), Eric held out his arms to give Wei a warm hug, a common greeting in France. However, Wei walked back, looking surprised and uncomfortable. Eric didn’t know the cultural difference and felt quite confused (困惑的). Luckily, Eric’ s classmate, Fu Xing, saw everything that happened. He told Eric that in China, hugs are usually for good friends or family.
Later that day, in the lunchroom, Eric saw his teacher, Miss Gao, far away and he naturally waved his hand up and down with his palm (手掌) facing up, as he did at home. But Miss Gao looked surprised and then just smiled. When Eric felt confused again, Miss Gao walked towards him. She then told Eric that in China, waving with one’s palm facing up is a way to call someone of lower social standing and that to greet someone politely, a handshake or a polite bow is much better.
To make up for his mistakes, Eric planned a small party in his room. He invited Wei Ning, Fu Xing, Miss Gao and many other classmates. They talked, laughed, and enjoyed delicious food while learning about each other’s customs (习俗). Many people liked Eric’s kind act and became good friends with him, including Wei Ning and Miss Gao.

Passage 3
China is a nation of etiquette (礼仪) . Chinese people are among the most hospitable people in the world. If foreigners visit a Chinese family, they would be surprised at the warmth that they would receive as guests.
When you visit a Chinese family, the host usually makes tea for you. Then he will serve you snacks like biscuits or candy. Someone in the family will also chat with you, never letting you feel lonely.
At the same time, other family members will prepare a meal for you. Chinese people treat their guests with a big meal. They always present more food than the guest can eat. On the table, the guests must be the first to eat. Perhaps one of the things that surprises a western guest most is that the Chinese host likes to pick food for visitors, which won’t happen at western tables. The Chinese family go out of their way to make you feel at home. As you are done eating, the host usually says “It seems that you didn’t eat much. Please have more.” Although you tell them you are full, they still put more food in your bowl.

But I was totally wrong. The misunderstanding began at the airport. I was looking for a public telephone to tell my American friend Danny that I had arrived. A friendly old man saw me looking, lost and asked if he could help me.
“Yes,” I said,“I want to give my friend a ring.” “Well, that’s nice,” he said. “Are you getting married But aren’t too young ”
“Who is talking about marriage (婚姻) ” I replied, I only want to give my friend a ring to tell him I’ve arrived. Can you tell me where there is a phone box
“Oh,” he said, “There is a phone downstairs.”
When at last we met, Danny explained the misunderstanding to me.
“Don’t worry,” he said to me, “I had so many difficulties at first. There are lots of words which Americans use differently in meaning from British people. You’ll soon get used to all the funny things they say. Most of the time, British and American people understand each other.”

As the saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” It’s just the key to being a polite guest abroad.
Whenever you are invited to a western family for dinner, to know some knowledge of western manners is very important. Here are five useful tips for you.
First, be on time. To be a polite guest, be sure to get there on time. Being late as well as being too early is impolite. If you can’t get there on time, make a call as early as possible.
Second, choose proper greeting manners. People in different countries have different ways of greeting each other. In Britain and the United States, people are supposed to shake hands when they meet for the first time. For friends, they may choose a hug. In France, greeting with a kiss is very common.
Third, mind table manners. When having dinner, you should behave properly. For example, putting your spoon in the soup bowl is considered impolite, and don’t try to talk with your mouth full. Be careful not to make much noise when cutting things with your knife.
Fourth, keep a proper talking distance. Generally, one meter between each other is perfect in Britain. However, half a meter is OK in the United States. People will feel uncomfortable when they are too close to each other or too far from each other.
Last, prepare a small gift. Some flowers or a bottle of wine is enough. If there are children, some chocolate will be nice.
1.How many manners are introduced in this passage
A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.
