Most albatrosses live in the Antarctic and the North Pacific Ocean. Every autumn， they fly back to their old homes on the islands far away from the land， where they give birth to babies by laying eggs. The mother albatross lays one egg every one to two years. The parents take care of the egg in turn.3 Baby birds grow very slowly. They can’t fly until about 10 months after birth.
Albatrosses are beautiful seabirds， but their population is very small. Many kinds of albatrosses are even in danger. China has listed albatrosses as first-class protected birds. Some of them have been on IUCN Red List. However， the protection of albatrosses still faces many challenges. Further international cooperation (合作) and scientific research are important to make sure these beautiful seabirds continue to fly freely in the sky.

not the Nazca Lines in southern Peru.1
These ancient drawings don’t rise before you stand on huge stones. They’re geoglyphs (地画). You can see them in the desert sands. There are hundreds of them. Some are so large that the best way to see them is from the window of a plane. That’s how thousands of travellers see them each year.
Yet no one noticed these wonders for nearly 1，500 years. A researcher first found some geoglyphs in Nazca (the Nazca Lines) in 1927. But people couldn’t find more geoglyphs until many years later. It took technology such as drones (无人机) to find them.
Researchers still have many questions about the geoglyphs. And the answers are unclear. Here’s what we do know： The area’s pre-Inca Nazca people created the geoglyphs. This was between 500 BCE and 500 CE. How did they make them By moving away some of the dark rocks that covered the ground. This showed the lighter-coloured desert sand below.
Many of the Nazca Lines show the natural world， like animals and plants.2 And then there are some that aren’t from
nature. One example was a geoglyph in 2019. It’s of a strange creature (生物) with many eyes and mouths. Researchers say this shows that the Nazca people may have a taste for the magical.
So why did Nazca people create the geoglyphs in the first place Researchers think they may have been part of rituals (仪式) for rain and crops. Certain geoglyphs may show where the

Fraser Island is in Queensland，
