【教学过程】
Step 1 Lead-in
Ask students what they often do in their free time.
Share teacher’s own hobbies with the students and lead in the topic: How do you spend your free time
Step 2 Work on 1a
Ask students to match the activities with the pictures in 1a. The answers are:BEFACD.
Have students read the words and phrases together.
Step 3 Work on 1b
Read the following four sentences. Ask the students to guess the missing words.
Listen to the audio and fill in the blanks.
After listening, discuss the answers and correct the misunderstandings.
Read the four sentences together loudly.
Step 4 Work on 1c
Ask students to listen to the audio again. Then have students match the purposes with the statements from 1b.
After listening, discuss the answers:3—A;4—B; 2—C;1—D and correct the misunderstandings.
Step 5 Work on 1d
Pair students up. Model the conversation with two students using the target structures.
Give them time to practise the conversation using the example. Encourage them to use their own words and creativity.
Step 6 Work on 2a
Ask students to look at the following pictures and find out what the challenges of doing these two activities are.
Encourage students to share their ideas.
Step 7 Work on 2b
Ask students to read all the items in 2b carefully. Explain the meaning of the difficult phrases to ensure they understand each option.
Play the audio. Instruct students to tick the items they hear.
Play the audio again for students to check their answers and explain why those items are mentioned in the conversation.
Step 8 Work on 2c
Have students read the sentences in 2c. Ask them to predict the missing words based on the context.
Play the audio once more. Students listen and fill in the blanks.
After listening, check the answers. Ask students to read the sentences aloud.
Step 9 Work on 2d
Ask students to imitate the given sentence patterns to talk about how they felt when they did their free-time activities for the first time, and also share the teacher’s experiences.
Step 10 Summary
Recap today’s lesson, with emphasis on the conversations about free-time activities and the purposes of free-time activities.
Step 11 Homework
Write a short essay about the free-time activities and the purposes of those activities.

Step 1 Lead-in
Review key vocabularies and expressions related to time to relax by asking students to share their activities.
Step 2 Work on 3a
Ask students to read the conversation aloud.
Have students circle Peter’s and Yaming’s free-time activities.
Check the answers:Peter’s:learning to play the guitar; Yaming’s: doing calligraphy. Then correct their mistakes.
Teach the following words and phrases by giving examples: up to, poem, single, stroke, give up, ink, return, in return, deal
Step 3 Work on 3b
Ask students to read the conversation again and answer the following questions in 3b.
Check the answers:He uses the words “beautiful” and “nice” to describe Yaming’s work; He likes using calligraphy to relax and even likes the smell of the ink; Both hobbies are difficult to start with; It means that starting a new task or learning a new skill is usually the most challenging part; When I manage to do something difficult, I usually feel a great sense of accomplishment and pride.(答案不唯一,示例仅供参考)
Step 4 Work on 3c
Listen to the conversation. Then have some pairs act out their conversations in class. Teacher should praise them and correct their mistakes.

Step 1 Lead-in

Take the teacher himself/herself as an example, telling students what he/she likes doing in his/her free time and why he/she likes doing it.
Step 2 Work on 4a
Read aloud the sentences provided and have students find out the same points among the sentences. Discuss the answers together.
Have students circle all the infinitive phrases. Explain their functions and usage in the sentences and provide more examples.
Step 3 Work on 4b
Complete the conversations with the correct forms of the verbs in brackets.
Step 4 Work on 4c
Complete the passage with the infinitive forms of the verbs in the box.
Ask students to read the passage aloud. Then have students form groups. Have each group discuss “What do you usually do outdoors ” and select a representative to report their ideas to the class. Then, guide students to identify mistakes and offer encouragement.
Step 5 Summary
Recap today’s key points, including the functions and uses of the infinitive in sentence structures.
Step 6 Homework
Write a short passage based on “What do you usually do outdoors ”.

Step 1 Lead-in
Ask students in what ways their hobbies help to make their life better.
Share teacher’s own answer with the students and lead in the topic.
Step 2 Work on 1a
Ask students to tick in what ways their hobbies help to make their life better.
Encourage the students to add more and write them on the blackboard.
Have the students read these phrases together and pay attention to the usage of the infinitive.
Step 3 Work on 1b
Ask students to read the text aloud. Then underline the two students’ opinions.
Teach the following words and phrases and expressions by giving examples: reduce, stress, yoga, object, Italian, programmer, allow, achievement, coin, stamp, teenage, postcard, rather, old-fashioned, foreign, dream of.
Have students name the locations in the following pictures in 1b.
Step 4 Work on 1c
Read the text again and complete the mind map. Then have students discuss the answers in small groups.
Check the answers:Luca:Making mobile phone apps; At the age of ten; It gives him a sense of achievement and he believes he is helping people around the world to learn Italian. Read the text again and complete the sentences with different purposes. Then have students discuss the answers in small groups.
