简单句中的省略
1. 省略主语或主谓语的一部分
Sounds like a good idea.
(It) sounds like a good idea.
2. 省略宾语
--Do you know Helen --I don’t know (her).
This way, please.
（You come) this way, please.
3 .省略表语
--Are you happy？
--Yes, I am (happy).
并列句中的省略
1. His advice made me happy, but (his advice made) Jim angry.
2. He has a knowledge of first aid but his friend doesn’t (have a knowledge of first aid).
法则：在并列句中省略第二个分句中相同的成分，避免重复
复合句中的省略
1. 状语从句的省略。
Wood gives off much smoke while burning.
while (it is) burning.
②Whenever possible, they would stop him and ask him the three questions.
Whenever (it is) possible,
在when, while, if, as if, though, although, as, until, once, whether, unless, whenever等连接的状语从句中，当从句主语与主句主语相同或从句的主语为it，且谓语中含有be动词时，则可省略从句主语与be动词
2. 定语从句的省略。
①The exact year (which/that) Angela and her family spent together in China was 2008.
②He is the man (whom) they assume to be extremely rich.
复合句中的省略
在定语从句中，先行词在从句中作宾语时，关系代词which, that, whom可以省略。
复合句中的省略
3. 宾语从句的省略。
①I truly believe that beauty comes（come） from kindness.
②He said that the text was very important and that we should learn it by heart.

及物动词后接宾语从句时，连接词that一般可以省略；
但如果及物动词接两个或两个以上that引导的宾语从句时，那么只有第一个that可以省略。
其他省略情况
①We often hear her sing (sing) an English song in the classroom.
②She often is heard to sing (sing) an English song in the classroom.
使役动词，如make, let, have等和感官动词，如see, watch, notice, observe, hear等后面作宾补的不定式须省略to，
但若这些动词用于被动语态，则to不省略。

其他省略情况
虚拟语气中的省略
Had you come here yesterday，you would have met her.
If 虚拟条件状语从句中含有had、should、were时, 常省略if，而将were、had、should提前, 构成部分倒装。

在要求(demand、require，request、ask),命令(order、command), 建议（suggest、recommend、advise), 坚持（insist) 等后的宾语从句中，常省略 should。
