1. Some people are rushing to get home from work.
rush to do sth.是一个常见的短语，意思是“匆忙去做某事”。例如：
Every morning, I rush to catch the school bus.
When the bell rings, we rush to enter the classroom.
get home from work的意思是“下班回家”。
2. Lights are shining across the city, and colourful boats are moving slowly down the river.
across有介词和副词两种词性，在这句话中，across作介词，意思是“在......各处；遍及”，即“灯光照亮了整座城市”。
又如：The news spread quickly across the town.
across作介词还有“在......另一边；在......的对面”的意思。例如：
The library is just across the road.
3. In this city, people live side by side with many wonderful animals.
