e.g. Failure is the mother of success. 失败乃成功之母。

常用于现在完成时,也可根据语境与一般现在时等连用。

2) hundreds of 数百的,成百上千的

拓展:hundred、thousand、million等词的用法:
基数词+ hundred/ thousand/million/... hundred、thousand 等用单数形式,且不可与to连用。 这两种情况下,其后都跟可数名词的复数形式,作主语时,谓语动词均用复数形式。
hundreds/thousands/millions/...of 前面不可加具体的数词, hundred、thousand 等要用 复数形式,且of不可省略。 巧学妙记:具体数字两无(无-s 无of);模糊数字两有(有-s 有of)。
