Bus driver Carlos Mendez was on his usual route (路线) through downtown Austin, carrying 15 passengers on a busy weekday morning. Suddenly, he heard a noise from the back of the bus. Looking back, he saw an elderly passenger falling forward, face white and hands pressed against his chest.
Carlos didn’t wait. He quickly pulled over, turned on the warning lights, and said to the other passengers, “I have to help this man — please stay in your seats, and I will call an ambulance now.” He left his seat and hurried to the back of the bus. The man, whose name was later found to be Arthur Hale, did not reply when Carlos touched his shoulder. Carlos remembered his medical training. He checked Arthur’s heartbeat, which was weak, and began pressing down hard on his chest.
A few passengers joined Carlos as he continued the first aid (急救), counting aloud to keep rhythm (节奏). After three minutes that felt like a century, Arthur let out a soft cough and opened his eyes a little. “Easy there, sir — you’re going to be okay,” Carlos said to him, slowing his own movements but keeping a hand on Arthur’s wrist.
Another five minutes later, the ambulance arrived and the doctors took over. They told Carlos that Arthur had suffered a heart attack, and his quick action had prevented possible death. Arthur was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment and went back home two days later. When Carlos visited him that weekend, Arthur held his hand closely and said, “You didn’t just drive a bus that day — you drove me to safety. AI has made its way into almost every field, and according to Abta’s latest Holiday Habits report, the travel industry is no exception. The rate of people using AI to get some travel ideas has doubled in the past 12 months, up to 8 percent from 4 percent.
The survey of 2,001 people also showed that younger generations are leading the way in using AI. The largest age group is 25- to 34-year-olds, with 18 percent looking for travel ideas through AI. That number drops to 13 percent for 18-to 24-year-olds. And only 3 percent of 55-to 64-year-olds are using AI for holiday tips.
However, AI has not taken over just yet when it comes to researching trips, as Internet searches (48 percent) and recommendations from friends and family (41 percent) still remain the most common ways to choose where to go. In fact, people taking more traditional routes, such as looking through holiday brochures (手册), still take up 25 percent.
Abta says that AI will continue to grow when it comes to trip planning. Holidaymakers have already shown a level of trust in AI for making travel decisions. 43 percent people in the survey said they would be confident to some degree in letting an AI tool plan their holiday, with this number dropping to just 38 percent letting the tool book their trip for them.
Travel industry leaders state that AI will continue to be a big part of what customers do before they make a travel decision. According to them AI will greatly influence the travel industry, but travellers still want to communicate with a travel company before booking trips. Travel companies will not vanish anytime soon, because of that group of customers who think it’s necessary to go in and look someone in the eye when they’re booking something.
28. How does the author develop paragraph 2
A. By using examples. B. By comparing AI tools.
C. By explaining rules. D. By presenting numbers.
29 What is the most common way for people to make travel plans
A. Depending on AI tools. B. Asking for others’ advice.
C. Searching the Internet. D. Reading the holiday advertisements.
30. What does the underlined word “vanish” in the last paragraph probably mean
A. Disappear. B. Enlarge. C. Succeed. D. Recover.
31. What does the text mainly talk about
A. The rapid development of AI tools.
B. The rising role of AI in travel planning.
C. The younger generations’ preference for AI.
D. The great challenges faced by travel companies.

If you take a walk through a Pittsburgh city park, you might come across a group of goats (山羊) eating poison ivy, one type of plants harmful to the ecosystem (生态系统). It is part of an experiment (实验).
By eating a lot of plants, goats greatly cut down the plants that need to be treated with herbicides (除草剂). Herbicides are traditionally used to clear out unwanted plants. There is glyphosate in many herbicides, which is reported to lead to cancer — a serious illness. Herbicides can remain in the soil and on plants, and during rain, they are washed into streams and rivers, further polluting the ecosystem.
There’s a need for goats all across the U.S., including California and New Mexico, where they help in wildfire prevention. Goats are sure-footed, and they enjoy climbing up and getting to the plants that are difficult for humans to clear away. They prefer woody plants, soft shoots and bushes (灌木丛) compared with other plant-eaters, such as cows, who are happy with grasses and low-lying plants. This makes goats perfect for clearing areas of high-growing woody plants that strengthen wildfires.
However, there are challenges in using goats. Their hairs are thin, which means they couldn’t work outside in cold winter. Goats can break seeds (种子) of harmful plants down in their stomachs, so they don’t spread the plants they’re eating, but this also makes them easy to suffer from stomach illnesses.
But when you think about the bigger picture, these problems are just small. One good thing that came from Pittsburgh’s goat experiment was the public interest it received. After the experiment finished, many other cities wanted to know how they could start a similar project. People, it turns out, also like goats. Park visitors love seeing the goats at work. Their presence brings a lot of joy and adds to the park experience!
32. Why are goats used in some city parks in the U.S.
A. To study their eating habits. B. To cut down the costs on herbicides.
C. To attract more tourists to the parks. D. To deal with harmful plants in a natural way.
33. What can we infer about goats from paragraph 3
A. They are no better at climbing than cows.
B. They prefer low-lying plants to woody bushes.
C. They help prevent wildfires by eating specific plants.
D. They are mainly raised in California and New Mexico.
34. What is the public’s attitude towards the goat project
A. Positive. B. Worried. C. Uncaring. D. Unclear.
35. Which of the following would be the best title for the text
A. The Disadvantages of Using Herbicides in Parks
B. How Goats Help Protect the Ecosystem in the U.S.
C. Different Ways to Prevent Wildfires Across the U.S.

Six-year-old Leo was born with a problem in his right leg. He needed a stick to walk. When he said he wanted to learn swimming, his whole family was surprised. “In the water, there’s no ground to stop me. I can ‘run’ like everyone else,” Leo said, holding his hands closely with strong hope in his eyes.
When Leo walked into the swimming pool for the first time, the cold water reached his stomach. Suddenly, his right leg lost control, and he started to sink (下沉). Coach Lisa quickly caught him and said softly, “Don’t be afraid. The water will hold you up.” But the training was much harder than Leo had thought. Kicking, which others learned easily, made Leo struggle a lot. His right leg just couldn’t move in the proper way. He could only swim two meters before choking (窒息) on water.
After about one month, Leo watched other kids swimming freely. He sat by the pool and wiped his tears: “I can never do this. I want to give up.” His mom sat by his side and said, “Look, Leo. At first, you couldn’t even stand in the water. But now you can swim five meters — that’s progress!” Coach Lisa also came over with a float (浮板): “Let’s try a new way. We’ ll practice using your left arm to swim first, and use a float for your right leg.”
The days of trying again were still full of challenges. One night, Leo’s right leg hurt so badly that he couldn’t fall asleep at all. The next morning, Leo refused to go to the pool, but his mother still drove him there. When Coach Lisa came to check on him, she brought along some good news. “The city’s disabled swimming competition is coming soon,” Coach Lisa said. “You’re getting faster and stronger, Leo. And I’ve signed you up for this competition.”
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
