黄石公园分五个区:西北的猛犸象温泉区以石灰石台阶为主;东北为罗斯福区，仍保留着老西部景观;中间为峡谷区，可观赏黄石大峡谷和瀑布;东南为黄石湖区，主要是湖光山色;西及西南为间歇喷泉区，遍布间歇泉、温泉、蒸气池、热水潭、泥地和喷气孔。园内设有历史古迹博物馆。
该公园是世界上最大的火山口之一，它拥有世界上面积最大的森林之一。有超过10,000温泉和300多个间歇泉。拥有290多个瀑布。园内有黄石湖、黄石河、峡谷、瀑布及温泉等景观。园内有很多种野生动物，包括7种有蹄类动物，2种熊和67种其他哺乳动物，322种鸟类，18种鱼类和跨境的灰狼。
