Clue Card 2— American Gold Rush
By the early 1900s, although cities like New York were rich, many ordinary people lived a hard life and had few opportunities. As a result, the idea of going west to find gold became very attractive. It meant a chance for a fresh start and a better life.
Gold seekers traveled to the West with simple tools to search for gold in rivers. However, life was full of difficulties, competition, and danger. It was hard to get rich by honest work. Many people found that the easiest way to become rich was to take risks and break the law.
