1. basis n. 基础，基本
on the basis of… 在…的基础上；根据
陈述应基于事实。
Statement should be made on the basis of fact.

5.scene n.

Doctors and nurses rushed to the scene of the accident to carry out the rescue.
on the scene 在场；出现

3）景象，景色，风光
春天时，山顶的景色美得难以言表。
In spring the scene on the top of the hill is so attractive that it is beyond words.

scene 指展现在眼前的情景，也可指scenery的一部分，大多包括景物中的人及活动在内
sight 指眼睛所看到的景象，可以指美丽的风景，也可指悲惨的景象；常用复数sights表示名胜古迹、人文景观
view 表示视野、眼界，常指从某一固定位置看到的景色
scenery 指一个国家或地区的整体自然风景，不可数名词
landscape 指风景、景色，尤指乡村风景，还可以指风景画
6. spot
1）v. 看见，看出，注意到，发现
spot sth./ sb. doing sth. 看到某人/某物正在做某事
邻居们看到房子里冒出烟雾。
Neighbors spotted smoke coming out of the house.
2）n. 斑点；污迹；地点，场所
(be) on the spot 当场，在现场 = on the scene
詹姆斯被叫去见制片人，当场得到了这份工作。
James was called to see the producer and got the job on the spot.
7. sort
1）n. 种类，类别
all sorts of… 各种各样的….
营地里有各种各样的儿童活动。
There are all sorts of activities for kids at the campsite.
a sort of…（表示不十分准确）近似于…，有点像是…
我有种感觉你会通过期末考试。
I have a sort of feeling that you will pass the final examination.
sort of 有点，有几分（置于动词、形容词、副词之前）= kind of
当他意识到自己犯了如此愚蠢的错误时，显得有些羞愧。
He looked sort of ashamed when he realized he made such a foolish mistake.
2）v. 整理，把…分类
sort…into… 把…分类
垃圾可以轻松分拣并分类成塑料、玻璃和纸张。
Rubbish can easily be separated and sorted into plastics, glass and paper.
sort out 整理；把…安排好
约翰度过了一个愉快的周末，整理他的硬币和邮票。
John spent a happy weekend sorting out his coins and stamps.
8. intention n. 意图，目的，打算
have no intention of doing sth. 无意做某事
我绝无意让你继续独自生活在这里。
I have no intention of allowing you to continue living here alone.
with the intention of doing sth. 打算做某事
他离开英国，打算前往中国旅行。
He left England with the intention of travelling in China.

2）intended adj. 为…打算的 be intended for… 为…而设计
9. in case
1）conj. 表示条件，意为“如果，加入”
如果你无法按时完成任务，请务必告诉我。
In case you can’t fulfil the task in time, be sure to let me know.
2）conj. 表示目的，意为“以防”
我会再仔细看一遍说明书，以防我漏掉了什么。
I’ll go through the instructions once more in case I miss something.
3）adv. 意为“以防万一”

I guess we’ve already talked about this but I’ll ask you again just in case.
