The Father of Hybrid Rice
No other scientists has had a greater impact on agriculture than Yuan Longping. Yuan Longping was named the“Father of Hybrid Rice”for his contributions in agriculture.
Yuan Longping chose to devote himself to agriculture. Because what concerned him most was that farmers often had poor harvests. With strong will and determination, Yuan overcame enormous technical difficulties to develop the first hybrid rice. Besides, Yuan spent decades working in rice fields whether it shined or rained, even in his 80s, to conduct experiments and improve hybrid rice varieties. What might have made him such an outstanding scientist was his lifelong devotion to solving the problem of food security for people.
On 22 May 2021, the whole country was saddened by Yuan’s death and people honored and remembered him in different ways. He is one of the most famous scientists, who fully deserves our admiration and respect. It is his selfless devotion and great contribution that inspire our young to commit ourselves to building a better future.
