At midnight ,in a taxi
A taxi driver and an old woman
The driver picked up the old woman and her suitcase.
She asked to take a long drive through the downtown area instead of going directly to her destination.
She explained she was on her way to a hospice and had no family left.
The woman was facing the end of her life alone. The driver wanted to help her and consider how to do during their short trip.
The driver turned off the meter and spent hours driving her through her old neighborhoods.
He listened silently as she remembered her past life.
At the hospice, he refused payment and gave her a hug.
The driver understood that his simple act of kindness was deeply important.
