As Ginni Bazlinton reached Antarctica, she found herself greeted by a group of little Gentoo penguins
longing to say hello. These gentle, lovely gatekeepers welcomed her and kick-started what was to be a trip
Ginni would never forget.
Ever since her childhood, Ginni, now 71, has had a deep love for travel. Throughout her career as a
professional dancer, she toured in the UK, but always longed to explore further. When she retired from
dancing and her sons eventually flew the nest, she decided it was time to take the plunge.
After taking a degree at Chichester University in Related Arts, Ginni began to travel the world,
eventually getting work teaching English in Chile. And it was in Chile that she discovered she could get
last-minute cheap deals on ships going to Antarctica from the islands off Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost
tip of the South American mainland. “I just decided I wanted to go, ” she says. “I had no idea about what I’d
find there and I wasn’t nervous. I just wanted to do it. And I wanted to do it alone as I always prefer it that
way. ”
In March 2008, Ginni boarded a ship with 48 passengers she’d never met before, to begin the journey
towards Antarctica. “From seeing the wildlife to witnessing sunrises, the whole experience was amazing.
Antarctica left an impression on me that no other place has,” Ginni says. “I remember the first time I saw a
humpback whale; it just rose out of the water like some prehistoric creature and I thought it was smiling at us.
You could still hear the operatic sounds it was making underwater.”
The realization that this is a precious land, to be respected by humans, was one of the biggest things that
hit home to Ginni.

Eat more when you are stressed You’re not alone. More than a third of the participants in a survey said
they change their diets during stressful times.
Many of us are quick to turn to either sugary foods or highly refined carbohydrates (碳水化合物) when
the stress hits. “There can be a bit of a vicious cycle,” says David Ludwig, a professor at Harvard University.
“When we feel stressed, we seek foods that are going to relieve us immediately, but often those foods lead to
surges and crashes in hormones and blood sugar that increase our new stresses”.
So, if eating lots of refined carbohydrates and sugar may worsen our responses to stress, are there other
types of food that make us more resilient Researcher Joe Hibbeln believes the answer is yes. He has spent
the past two decades researching connections between the omega-3 fatty acids (omega-3s) found in fish and
emotional health. He also points to clinical trials that have found that omega-3s may help control depressive
symptoms. And a study of schoolchildren in England linked omega-3s to more pro-social behavior.
Drew Ramsey, a psychiatrist (精神病学家) at Columbia University, says a nutrient-rich diet is best for
beating stress. He points to his favorite breakfast: scrambled eggs mixed with the greens and topped with
pumpkin seeds. With this meal, you are covering all your bases, Ramsey says. The eggs are a good source of
B vitamins and protein, which can be more satisfactory than a carbohydrates-based breakfast. The greens are
incredibly nutrient-dense, and are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin K and potassium. And the pumpkin
seeds are a good source of magnesium, which is thought to play a role in fighting off anxiety — and zinc,
which may help boost the immune system.
The bottom line The foods we choose can’t magic away stress. But Ramsey says he believes “There is
a very, very strong connection between food and mood”.

Buckminster truly well-known was his deep concern for human survival. Thus, he claimed that to solve

He was especially passionate about developing more efficient housing. His goal was to create a
